I used H&R Block last year to prepare and file my 2005 tax return. I had a refund coming back, and paid the fee to have my state taxes e-filed. My return was rejected by the IRS because of an error. I never corrected it, and never attempted to re-file. Any suggestions as to how I can remedy this now with the least amount of hassle?

The IRS closed the e-file center for the 2005 tax year last October. Since you have already paid for the returns, just go to H&R Block and ask them to provide you with paper versions to mail. They ought not charge you. Make sure you go to the same office you used originally.

Once you have the returns, if you are in a refund position, just mail.
If you owe money, add 10% to the amount and mail. Be sure to update the 1040-V voucher. There is no need to update the rest of the return. The IRS will calculate the difference on the interest owed, and let you know where it falls.

Nowhere. You had to efile your 2007 return via 10/15/2008. Too previous due now. you will would desire to paper report it. odzooker is incorrect relating to the size of time to report. you have 3 years to report a return the place a reimbursement is due. 2007 return submitting time cut back for a reimbursement is 4/15/2011.

It's too late to e-file for 2005. You'll have to file a paper return now.

You should go back to H & R Block and tell them your story. Have them refile the return for you; I feel they would do it at no charge to you if the mistake was theirs.
