My husband still has not received his W-2. He called the local store AND the corporate office, and for some reason they refuse to give him the federal employer identification number. How else can we get this? Apparently I can't file unless I have this number.

His employer was supposed to have the w-2 in the mail, posted by 1/31/2006. It still has a little more time to get to you (2/14) before you can call the IRS on them.(800-829-1040). A Federal ID number is like a Social Security Number and should be protected. You will not be able to electronically file your taxes without a w-2 until sometime in March. The IRS recommends waiting until the end of tax season before filing a substitute w-2 or Form 4852.

i'm a boss CPA. this received't reason a situation with filing the MD go back or getting a reimbursement. This container on the W-2 is regularly sparkling or incorrectly filled by technique of the employers. that's continuously a shortcoming interior the payroll software getting used. Maryland does have a separate business enterprise id# from the FEIN. The business enterprise ought to apply the state # interior the state withholding container of the W-2. although, even as the business enterprise is remitting the withholding and filing the three hundred and sixty 5 days end comments, they are probably utilising a preprinted type which has the nicely suitable numbers for the state to observe the withholding. The state does not prefer to position self belief in this container to reconcile withholding remitted.

Check his paystubs....they might have the FEIN. Or, if he worked for the same company last year, then look at the W-2 for 2005. The FEIN for a particular company does not change, unless ownership of the company changes (i.e. through mergers with another company or acquisition by another company).
