Renting & Real Estate - December 2007

[Selected]: All categories Business & Finance Renting & Real Estate

Looking for real estate in US or UK and it's outrageous.
I think one should be able to buy for 3 times average salary in a decent area, so at least a 40% discount on current prices.
Am I crazy or just wise or looking in the wrong place ?
IMF says 40% overvalued, are they right ?
OECD says UK worst place to bring up kids, are they right ?
Please help a.m.a.p. As much as possible !
Thanks everyone !

We are going to be buying a house and my grandmother is giving us $30,000 cash towards the house for a down payment. Is there a way to avoid a gift tax? She actually found the money at her deceased sisters home, and has not put it into her bank account. Whats the best way to handle this?

would seeing a accurate floor plan of the home either on the flyer or a website be beneficial to you? If what are some reasons why you would like to see one or how it would help you in your home buying process?

I'd like to find a place that's cheap and I can let the land sit for a while until I have money to build a cabin (10 years or more!!!). I'd like it above say NC and no farther West than OH cause of family. What do you think? Mountains would be great. Place to have a retreat for wildlife. Maybe will it to Audubon when I die. Thanks

If I sell my house for about $400,000 (my taxes are now $4500 because I bought this house 30 years ago) and buy a house in same neighborhood (Miami) for equal value, my taxes will quadruple. Is there any way through incorporations or LLCs or Trusts or exhanges to avoid this jump in taxes on my new purchase?

I am a real estate agent and loan originator. I've heard the grumblings from other agents that grocery cart advertising never netted them any transactions, however I've got a good web presence and some other forms of advertising that I would like to do in conjunction with grocery carts. Can this work?

Bought property in a new orleans tax sale. I am in doubt as to my legal rights to collect rent from the current tenants , as well as how to serve notice that I must receive said rent. May I make renovations under these terms on an occupied residence.

We have been trying to buy a house for the past few months (but I found out these guys ((loan officer & mortgage guy)) were crooks,& reported them to the Better Business Bureau, they made us drop the complaint (I also wonder if this was because of that complaint, even if it was closed)and now,we'd just about decided to just rent the house,& the owner agreed, when suddenly we got the closing date. What should we do? It's almost funny!
I still don't trust those guys, especially since only the co-signer's name is on the paper(s) and not me or my husband's.
Please,OPINIONS..

I rented a room and paid security deposit in a house. Now I want to move but the women not have enough money to pay my deposit back.

I think my only option is small claims court. What will happen if she not show up and I win. But, how I get money. Do I file a judgement?
What if she not pay the judgement?
The deposit is 500 dollars

It just seems that they wouldn't want to look for someone because it would mean more work. However, they would also be the best people to ask because they would receive applications.

Hi,

I am a first time home buyer in San Jose, CA. I have read few books and researched conclusion leads me to getting an Exclusive Buyer Agent is the best way to go.

I have asked my friends and colleagues about it, and no one I know have used such agents, so I am stuck finding one on my own.

I have looked at NAEBA (www.naeba.com), but here are my questions:

1. Are there other sites and or resources besides NAEBA that is good to search for an agent?

2. What usually are the pay structure? Is it a fixed fee? Are they negotiable?

3. Since NAEBA was founded in 1995, its only been around for 10 yrs or so, are there many around who is experienced enough?

Thanks for you help in advanced.

I bid on a home that is now showing as "pending." When I see it now on mls, it shows a higher price than originally indicated. What's the purpose of that? How long before I get a yay or nay on my offer? Do they hold on to all offers and if so for how long?
