I'd like to find a place that's cheap and I can let the land sit for a while until I have money to build a cabin (10 years or more!!!). I'd like it above say NC and no farther West than OH cause of family. What do you think? Mountains would be great. Place to have a retreat for wildlife. Maybe will it to Audubon when I die. Thanks

Invest the money until you have enough for the land and buildings. Bare land is what my dad called an Alligator it just eats and produces nothing. You will have to pay property taxes and if you clear any it will grow back so until you can afford to live there don't buy. Unless you already have a first home a cabin might mean you can't afford to buy a home. Invest the 20K plus what it would cost you to pay payments and property taxes and when you are ready you can afford a bigger better place.

You might try a land auction site. There are many sites that offer land for sale in non-populated states like Wyoming, Oklahoma (You can homestead land) Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi are a few places I have looked and found land to be extremely affordable.

How many acres do you want to purchase? I have seen some in various states for as low as $350 an acre. Google raw land in certain states and see what you come up with.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

I agree with shiprepairwoman. Let the money grow until you know where you want to be. Then you will have the money to build and not just own the land.
