I don't understand why people a penalized for buying "the American dream"
Homeowner work for up to 30 years to pay off a house of their own. After the mortgage is gone, the property tax remains till they die. And some taxes are pretty high.
I live in a apartment complex that is subsidized. The got a tax abatement from the city, because they big time landlords (a corporation) brought clean affordable housing to our small town.
Most homeowners take pride in their home and maintain it over the years and keep the property value up.
So I don't get why big companies get abatements and homeowners have to pay?

Even with the 10-15% drop homes are 7-8 times the average salary ,when historically homes sell for 3-4 times the ave salary,
does not make sense fundamentally, but neither does $3 gas, and thats not going anywhere, this was the debate at a dinner party we had last night...

I'm been hearing rumors that the first half of 2008 will be a great year for real estate sales in Miami. I heard it will be a seller's market.

I have 4 properties- 2 investment, 2 residential. My main home is with WaMu and has a second with Countrywide. The mortgage person told me he could get a second on one of my investment properties that he refinanced, then I could use that cash to re-fi my main home, I would be able to get out $12,000 and then combine the 1st and 2nd plus get lower payments on this home. This has been going on for 2months, and he just told me that he could not get the second from the rental, and that I would have to come to the closing with $20,000 for my main home to go through with WaMu,plus payment would be closeer to $2100,a month with escrows combined! I put a halt to this because it is a worse scenario than I have currently. He is stating that I should pay him $1000 for all his work! Do I need to pay him for his (as he stated child support)?

I made contract with seller, am getting homeowners insurance, the appraisal has been done, signed the paperwork with the mortgage broker, and my job sent back employment verification form.
What is the next step. The loan processors are currently working on it. (What does that mean?)
Also, when will the underwriters look at it, and how long does that usually take? If the mortgage broker approved my application, and I've signed all the paperwork, does that mean the underwriter will accept it too???
I'm nervous that I will be denied by the underwriter after I've went through all the work/paperwork. :-)

I'm 22 and I've lived in Paterson my whole. I do not have a drivers lisence, so much of the time I am forced to work out of the home since I'm horrified of walking around here at night, or using the public transportation here. I've gotten threats before just for being white, which is rather hurtful I must say.

That being said, my family doesn't think they could afford the taxes in any other nicer areas in NJ. Is this true? As it is we already pay near 10k a year...

Hi there, a friend of mine owned two homes with mortgages on both. He lived in one home (Primary Residence) and his wife (Works for a non-profit company) goes and works out of city for two days a week and she lives in that second home while she is out of town. Recently, the friend died and his wife wants to sell one house and use the equity to pay-off the mortgage on the other house. Will she have to pay taxes or is there some kind of survivorship/death laws that help a widow out? They live in Ventura County, CA

Thanks!

I just moved into an apartment in Denver/Glendale less than a week ago. I signed a six month lease. The lease does not cover pest control. Here is what I've been through: killed 25+ roaches within my first three days here. Thursday my apartment was sprayed, but I found and killed nine later that night.
I have bed bug bites on my leg, arm, chest, and even my face.

Management tried to say I brought these with me, but I had to look roaches up to see what they even looked like. I have never had bed bugs. I don't feel remotely comfortable living here, and upon speaking with management/other tenants this is an ongoing problem that isn't going to be fixed.

When I was being shown the apartment it was during the daytime, and I was told there were "a few bugs from time to time", not PESTS. I realize I should have asked, but I am not experienced with this.

Is this considered a breach of lease? If not, how would I get out of my lease and not pay the fees?

My husband's friend is now staying with us. (He has no where else to stay). He is sleeping on the couch, but he has access to all the food in the house, gets to watch cable tv, uses my computer and telephone.

I don't want to stir up trouble, but I don't want freeloaders either.

I am renting my beach condo. My husband has been hired by another condo owner to do some work on the condo next door to mine. My tenant is furious that my husband is on the building premises and wants him to leave. She only has another month to go but she says that her vacation is being ruined because the "landlord" is near her working. Is this crazy? she is also furious that we are doing some painting outside the building and had to pout some plastic on the windows.

Man is 68 and woman is 62 and have been living together for many year and most likely will stay together till death. Each intends to leave their half to their house to their respective child from a previous marriage. This seems like a stupid arrangement to me. What better arrangement could be made without anybody feeling it might lead to a breakup of their relationship?

My wife and I own a home together. Someone said to get a mortgage for that second home, I might be better to take my name off our house and transfer ownership just to my wife. So when I buy the next house I will be the only owner on that one.

I have read some of the postings about Jumbo Loans. What credit score and income is needed for a couple with 5% down and looking to buy a 620K home in California RIGHT NOW? We have a great opportunity to do so. I have heard that your age, race and location (CA vs. NV for example), makes a difference. Have the big companies shut out Jumbos indefinitely or just for a few months? Any experts out there that can answer and/or help?

We are thinking about buying this beautiful 1880 Victorian home. We would live in it, not rent it out. We can pay for it outright but it needs some work. It has a new roof but needs a new paint job which is mucho work. The mechanicals are updated but the interior is ugly. Wallpaper needs to be torn off, carpet removed, floors refinished, ect.... The "bones" of the house seem in good shape. It just needs some good old fashioned elbow grease. The sellers are asking 135,000 for the house which I think is very reasonable, even with the work that needs to be done. I have always admired this home when I walked by it. What do you think?

My husband and I were going to have a friend of mine and her son move in and pay rent. We were asking that she pay $650 a month with no security deposit. This would include full use of the house and living areas, pool, spa , BBQ, patio, laundry as well as include the utilities. Electric, 2 central A/C units, swamp cooler, Cable TV, FIOS Internet service, gas, water, trash and phone. We have also offered storage in our garage for her things, offered to help her get a moving truck and assist with taking her son to school and picking him up so she would not be so limited in the jobs she can take.

We are not letting her bring her kitten as my sister in law, brother in law, niece and nephew are highly allergic and they would no longer be able to come vist. Also the fact that she has said many times that this cat sprays the walls.

So she has told me that we are being unreasonable and unfair.

Are we asking too much?
