My husband and I were going to have a friend of mine and her son move in and pay rent. We were asking that she pay $650 a month with no security deposit. This would include full use of the house and living areas, pool, spa , BBQ, patio, laundry as well as include the utilities. Electric, 2 central A/C units, swamp cooler, Cable TV, FIOS Internet service, gas, water, trash and phone. We have also offered storage in our garage for her things, offered to help her get a moving truck and assist with taking her son to school and picking him up so she would not be so limited in the jobs she can take.

We are not letting her bring her kitten as my sister in law, brother in law, niece and nephew are highly allergic and they would no longer be able to come vist. Also the fact that she has said many times that this cat sprays the walls.

So she has told me that we are being unreasonable and unfair.

Are we asking too much?

We offered to take her son to school cause he would be going to the same school as my daughter and my job is already flexable for me, also this would help her to not have to pay child care so she could get back on her feet.

I have also broken down the cost of everything including the mortgage payment, property taxes and all the monthly bills that pertain to the home.

The cat sprays the walls? Do not do this your house will stink and you cannot get that scent out, so it will destroy the worth of your house. Unreasonable no very accommodating. If she does not like it let her look elsewhere. She needs to get the cat fixed then it will not spray. Again you are being more that fair

this sounds more like a roommate situation to me than actually renting a place out. Will you all be sharing the same space?

In either case, I would say that if the $650 represents about half of your costs or less for mortgage, utilities, etc then it is a good deal. If the $640 per month is more than half then I'd wonder why I am paying more than the other roommate. In the past when I've been in roommate situations all bills were split in half.

You are being generous and you know it. Has she had many other offers like this? There are people who think of their pets as family members and she may be one of them. I suggest that she find a friend that will take the cat until she can get on her feet and then she will be able to take the cat and the family and get out on her own. It may be a blessing that there is a thorn in her side to start, so you won't end up having to help her forever. I just hope she pays you! It's not fun to have to evict someone who gets all of these benefits and then takes advantage of it even more. May blessings fall on you and your family for having the courage and generous hearts to take in a mother in need. May she find her feet quickly and move on!

It doesn´t sound unreasonable, you could add up all the costs and cut it in half to show her the true cost BUT WHY?

Tell her to take the space for 650 or get the %&$* out

PS why are you taking the son to school and helping with the truck, no landlord ever did that for me.

i would say that's good. Sounds like she's getting a good deal.
I would explain to her how much all the total bills cost and if half is more then 650 it sounds like a good deal.

First wrong step is renting to friends or relatives. You now see why
