My husband's friend is now staying with us. (He has no where else to stay). He is sleeping on the couch, but he has access to all the food in the house, gets to watch cable tv, uses my computer and telephone.
I don't want to stir up trouble, but I don't want freeloaders either.

I disagree with the weekly charge as it will seem more affordable. Instead I suggest you add up the expenses of the bills, food and mortgage/rent and divide by 3 then add another 25% because none of the creature comforts are his and his presence cramps your style. Be sure to discuss this with your husband before presenting to your squatter. Then, lay down the law with section of the classified ads for a new place to live.

Sounds annoying. Is he trying to get a job? If not, tell him he can't stay any longer unless he is actively searching. This depends on how good of a friend this guy is to your husband. If he is a realllllly good friend, let your husband decide...maybe he wants to let him stay for free. If he is just a sap and sort of a friend, you should ask him what he thinks a reasonable rent would be. Is he a piggy and eats everything or is he respectful. I would say $25 for groceries, nothing for cable b/c cable doesn't charge by how much you watch. I would charge a little for elec. and water.....You could divide your avg. bill by 3 and have him pay less than that.

How much is your husbands friendship worth. Is the guy going to keep freeloading. It sounds like he has the run of the house, including your posessions.
Why is he staying there. Is it no place to stay, or is it no money to stay anywhere. If he can't pay then any amount of money is too much. If he can pay, make him to encourage hif to go out and find a place.pp

After 2 weeks , charge enough to motivate him to move .
Also , he should be job hunting , NOT hanging out watching TV .
If you are worring about 'stirring up trouble' with a freeloader , you are a total mouse and he will still be living there after you and the husband break up and you move out .

I agree with the guy above. A weekly charge is best. I hope this cat at least has a job. You should let your husband bring it up to him since it''s his friend. Good luck with it!

Well I think 100 a week sounds fair, but I would ask him to buy some of the food or buy his own food.

He really should offer something towards the rent or bills, if he does not offer just ask polity for him to cut in what he uses.
