I live in Sacramento, CA. I recently got engaged, and my fiancee and I both agree it's time to get out of here. I'm from Buffalo, NY and she's a lifer here in Sacramento. I've travelled most of the country, and I've seen some places good and some bad. We're an interracial couple, so most of the places I'd like to move to are crossed out merely because a lot of people aren't level-headed. Anyway, the point to this question is what places in CA are affordable for a young couple? We'll buy a house within a few years and I want to live somewhere nice to raise the kids. I prefer Southern California, myself.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Banks these days are on increasing home loan interest rates making it difficult for salaried class to hope to own a home because the homes are also costlier and is a dream to be fulfilled. How to manage home, home loan repayment when salaries hardly suffice with rising cost of living and increasing inflation with the current budget offering nothing. It is a costly dilemma because both are just and essential. Can some one suggest a way out to balance both?

I'm 18 and want to buy a house when I turn 23. My sister suggested GICs. My mom suggested bonds. I have no idea what they're talking about. I just know I need money and a steady job to mortgage a house or something.

Yes, I need advice, lol.

Hi all-

I'm getting married and getting our first apartment together! (hooray!)

Our first month starts on 4/1. Our 1st month's rent and sec. deposit are due that day. From then on, rent is due on the 1st of the month.

HOWEVER... I'm trying to figure out our budget in the meantime... how long will it be before I receive my utility bills? They are separate from the rent (besides water and trash)... so does a WHOLE month go by and then I get my bill for the last 30 days' usage of heat and electric?

So then I would expect my utility bills to start on 5/1 and the first week of the month thereafter?

I'm just not sure when to expect to have to pay the bills every month. I know rent is the first of the month, but I want to make sure I have the money ready when the time comes to pay the utilities (and feel too dumb to ask my landlord!!!!)

go figure! I know you guys are soooo helpful!

My family is trying to purchase its first home. The one the link takes you to is in a great, quiet neighborhood, has good schools (an B elementary school and an A middle school) and the price is just right for our budget.

But is the floor plan too unique? The entrance is on the second floor, there are a lot of windows for natural lighting, the wood paneling on the interior makes it look very rustic, and it just seems like it is SO unique that it would be difficult in resale.

Any opinions?

We just had our phone interview with Pulte Homes about our loan application about a week ago and today when we did a follow up phone call with them today and they said it is in "underwritting" and they are who we will hear from next. What does that mean? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I bought a 1-bedroom condo last summer that is spacious for a single, first-time homeowner. But I'm planning to live with my boyfriend soon - and I am worried that it is too small and naive to think that it will be comfortable.

Does anyone have any advice on selling a condo/home about a year after closing? I haven't done any renovations, though it looks better even with fresh paint and nice decor. Also, I live in an area where home prices haven't dropped even though the market has declined. Thank you.

Hi,

I am negotiating the commission that the agent receives when he sells my house. He is asking for 3% but Im sure I can negotiate a better deal than this. To anyone that has sold their house recently, how much did you pay to your realtor?

I have had an inspection of the home about 4 weeks ago and that was where my concerns started. The home owners were home so I was not able to to tour the entire house with the inspector. The inspector noticed that the siding will need replacing in about 5 years. After walking throught today I noticed that there is a hole in one door (that was not noted on the inspection or by myself earlier) and that the siding is in bad shape (starting to rot and peel away in areas - much worse that I noticed before.) The siding is a type of board. The insurace company says a step has to be placed on the front of the house within 60days on the purchase for them to cover home owners insurance. Can I back out of the purchase for the items I noticed? And at what cost if any? I feel as if I was pressured by my agent to purchase thsi house for the price. I can afford it, but I feel like I could have offered less, but my agent told me that I should offer more "no one writes offers back and forth anymore

I am in the middle of a foreclosure on our home. It's not like I was irresponsible, but life kind of took a bad turn. However, I have been looking at companies who may want to work with the lender on a short sell situation. The company is called Lewis (or Louis) and Associates and they seemed to be reputable. The cost to me is $995 and they have high marks with the BBB. Does anyone know anything about this company? The thought of getting out from under this foreclosure may be fogging my mind. If you have any information, I would appreciate it.

Is there anything I need to know going into this? Any questions I need to ask?

Legally, and where commission and an agency is concerned.
