When buying a house, out of the two locations, which one is the better place? As far as better houses and being able to claim more land/property, better environment, etc.... which one of the locations have more "perks" over the other?

Long Island is better, because it's not in New Jersey.

I live in Long Island and I know little about NJ. I have heard that NJ has higher property taxes than Long Island which is hard to believe but it is true. NJ has lower state taxes than NY. Long Island is one of the safest places to live with great school systems however you will pay the price. A good house on LI in a good neighborhood will cost you on average at least 500k with taxes about 10k+ (Nassau County); the house will be on a typical 50-60 X 100 lot. If you go farther out east to Suffolk County you will get more for your money maybe a 100 X 100 lot with a bigger house. The biggest drawback from this county is that it is farther away from NYC at least a 1 hr commute.
