Is it true that if you purchase a house to live in, and are disabile or over 65 years old you are exempt from a portion of the property taxes?

I am thinking about renting a room. Before I ask my question I would like to explain my living situation now. I just got out of an apt where I was living with my friends, we got into an argument and in the end I was stuck paying for the entire months rent, bills, and repairs to the apt (not to mention cleaning EVERYTHING) since my roommates didn't help at all. Anyway my question is HOW safe is renting a room? I really don't want the same type of thing to happen (meaning I could get screwed out of money or something), is there a type of renters insurance that would cover if the people I was renting the room from decided to steal my stuff, what if they stole all my items what could I do? I could really use any other information as well, thanks for the information in advance.

My problem is that we have a contract on our house, the person who offered on the house has submitted all the necessary paperwork to their mortgage company, and has received her commitment letter back from them; however, a closing date has yet to be set. My realtor tells me that the ladys application is through with the underwriting, the commitment letter from the bank was received last week and we are just waiting on the mortgage company to get all of the numbers together and email that info to the title company. We have been waiting a week today, why can no one give us a closing day? How long should this take? We feel like something is wrong but no one will tell us? Any opinions?

Friend wants to buy a house but doesn't want her name to appear in any recorded legal docs open to public to avoid someone from her past being able to track her down.

Me and my fiance signed with a realtor to buy a house and have deposited our funds into his escrow account. How we are unable to get a bank loan because my fianace is not 21 years of age and cannot own property unless she gets her minorty waived which is not an option b/c it would drop her from her mom's federal health insurance plan.

We where never told that Jennifer could not own property, we cannot secure any type of loan with any bank for any amount, regardless of making a down payment or not, b/c my credit alone is not good enough to get a loan with only my signature, and I cannot find someone with good credit to co-sign with me. We are simply unapprovable at this point in time or until 4 months passes when Jen is 21.

My question is this, the realtor has informed us that the $500 that we gave to him which he deposited into escrow can only be given back to us if the seller wishes to, which I cannot just see someone giving back $500 of free money to them back to us.

What are my options? Do a stop payment on the check and risk being sued. Say that the contract is void b/c we where never informed that Jen could not own property. Say that the contract is void b/c Jen's signature is all over the buyer's contract which in itself makes the contract void b/c she at the time of signing the contract she was a minor.

I want to get into investing in property but my credit is crap. I was told about hard money, basicly loans at an high percentage rate. I think that's my only way in. My plan is to get the money and repair the homes and what's left use for monthly note. Basicly pay them back with their own money. Do you think this is a good idea? Where should I start to find a hard money loan?

I purchased a 2 unit building in Aug. 2006. The purchase price was 379000.00. I had to do a 80/20. One loan for 303200.00 w/ a int. rate of 9.25 and the other for 74000.00. w/ int. rate of 12.25. At the time i didn't know and didn't care cause i was happy to get a building. My middle score was 623 at the time and my credit is growing. In 3-6 months my score should be around 660+. Can I get one loan with a lower interest rate? What can I do to lower my payment. Especially the second loan cause the interest rate is too high and i would like a lower payment. Is it to soon for me to refinance or consolidate the both loans into one. How long do I have to wait.

I'm selling my home as a FSBO. A prospective buyer calls to make an appointment to see the house. The buyer states that she is also a broker, and although she is looking to buy the house for herself, her company requires her to charge the 3% buyers commission.

Is this a common practice? Is this legal? Is this ethical? Is she trying to essentially get a 3% discount on the purchase?

What is the best way to handle noisy neighbors?

They have their bass on the stero so loud that it rattles household items and it scares my pet. We've talked to them about it and were assured that it would be taken care of. It wasn't so we called the Office (we live in an Apartment Community). We have called the Office TWICE. They told us that they would send a letter to the neighbors. If they have, it hasn't worked to keep them more quiet. My floor still vibrates (they live below us) and I am forced to have to listen to their music.

The only way I can block their music out is if I turn something up as loud or louder than their music (and this risks disturbing someone else!) We aren't paying rent to listen to other people's entertainment!

We're starting to get at our wit's end. Is there something else that we can do (before having to result to calling the police)?

I have bad credit and can't get approved for any apartments, it seems. I have a decent job that is career oriented. So, I figure the only way i can get a place is to have someone else apply for the apartment, get it and then i just live in it. Is this legal?
