I am thinking about renting a room. Before I ask my question I would like to explain my living situation now. I just got out of an apt where I was living with my friends, we got into an argument and in the end I was stuck paying for the entire months rent, bills, and repairs to the apt (not to mention cleaning EVERYTHING) since my roommates didn't help at all. Anyway my question is HOW safe is renting a room? I really don't want the same type of thing to happen (meaning I could get screwed out of money or something), is there a type of renters insurance that would cover if the people I was renting the room from decided to steal my stuff, what if they stole all my items what could I do? I could really use any other information as well, thanks for the information in advance.

There is renters insurance to cover your personal property in the event of theft. Your best bet is to check the local paper and maybe move in with a family who has just one room for rent. Many respectable people rent out rooms in their homes. Just be careful and if they act weird in any way don't make the move.
