My roommate and I signed a lease contract together and we still have 9 more months to go. She was having car trouble and decided she can't pay rent anymore. She found another place to live. She then went to the landlord behind my back and the landlord breached the contract and let her out. Now I'm stuck either in this house or kicked out of the house depending on rather I want to pay the whole rent by myself. Is this legal? What is a contract worth these days? I want to know what my rights are and what I can do to protect myself in this situation. I called my landlord and she refused to have a meeting with me... "there is no use trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip..." is what she told me. I don't want to be the victim in this situation, can anyone help me out?

As housing market continues to slump, I want to take my time to "shop around" for houses or condos. However, it is hard to find an agent or realtor who is willing to take time to show me around. Frankly, I got better treatment while shopping for a car.

With huge commissions realtor or agent make, you would think they are more willing to spend time with you.

just wondering, i know there is alot of people who wish they could invest in real estate as it is a great investment market. I wish wondering if you would invest in a company that invests in real estate for you?
So like lets say the company has all these listings of different real estate projects they are going to buy and you can pick from one. So maybe there is 100 acres they are going to buy at 100,000 dollars. you would be able to invest 1000 dollars in this property threw this company, so realisticly you would on 1 percent of the propety threw the company. then maybe in a year the company would sell the property and get 200,000 for it. you would then get back 2000 dollars. 1000 for the investment and 1000 dollars profit.
would this be something you would do to invest in real estate or you think others would do? of course it would be a legal corporation not like some side business.
I am just wondering as myself would love to invest in realestate but dont have the money.
Thanks!

I agreed to pay for rent at a place with someone and lived there for a month and paid for that month of rent. I ended up moving and living somewhere else because the place wouldnt allow my dog. We planed on living there until may. I never signed the lease, so if this guy takes me to court, will I lose? I told the guy I would pay for the rent even if I could not find a new tenant just to try and be friends but the place is so crappy that no one wants it and i cant afford to pay past this months rent. So i am paying for this months rent even though no one is living in the place. After this month I cant pay for it anymore but i never signed the lease. Could I lose because of this "verbal contract"?

My friend is a landlord in Texas .. his tenants trashed the house, didn't pay the last two months' rent, left rotting food in the fridge when they left and the place was like a pig sty ... carpets ruined, paint chipped, repainted rooms in horrible colors, broken window panes ... you know the story. Anyway, tenant also left a lot of kids clothes and toys, and other stuff ... my friend who is decent tried to phone them to pick up their stuff, but they had changed their phone number and email address .. didn't want to be found, eh? In any case, my friend phoned the Salvation Army, who came and picked up the toys, clothes, etc., etc. Well, two weeks later a "representative" for the ex tenants turned up on his doorstep, and threatened a law suit for "stolen goods"!!! My friend doesn't know what to do ... could he go to the small claims court and demand damages? And what rights do the ex tenants have in regard to their stuff? I told him to ignore the "representative" .. am I wrong?

I realize it's not a law, but whenever someone comes to my door, I cannot tell who it is unless I open the door. I don't like to open the door unless I know who it is, so I just don't open it. Do you think it should be a requirement for safety?

I moved from Houston to Dallas for a better job, I spoke w/ the property manager and told her the situation and she sd that it would be fine as long as I pay the rent or pay $1,800 for breaking the lease. So, I choose the cheaper way and paid monthly. The $ was taken out of my account each month and they changed the locks on my apartment and my mailbox. Which is an illegal eviction from what I found out online. So, I don't know what to do. I spoke to the supervisor( the person over the property man.) and she sd that that didn't sound right and will call me back... of course there was no returned call. I was 2 weeks behind on the rent for July due to a death in my family so I informed them of this and sd I will pay when I come to get my things out of my apartment on 7/30. No one was in the office, maintence wouldn't let me in, didn't recieve any eviction notice and I gave them a typed notice which I have a copy of that I was moving and will continue to pay the rent... What's next?

A friend had his mom put on his title to his house & he's the only son with 4 sisters, but his mom lived with him, She never gave him any money to help with mortgage or expenses, he didnt want her to stay on the strret in case he got married or moved on with his life, he didnt approve of her boyfriend because he didnt help out, (lazy, didnt even work) so she ended up moving out with the boyfriend to an apartment. 800.00 a month, bills, plus a new car note etc. Then he gets a letter from a lawyer stating that she wants HALF of what the house is worth! Because he was nice enough to put her on his title, she is taking half! But my question is... If u claim part ownership arent you supposed to be liable for half of the expenses relating to that property??? How can she get half if she never gave anything to help with the expenses and or mortgage??? I mean how can she turn around and take something she didnt help build? Can she get away with that! Stealing from her only son???

Have you ever rented a room from someone who owns a home? How did you work out the food storage situation. Did you share a bathroom or have your own? How much did you pay? Did things work out for the better or for the worse? Any comments would be appreciated.
