I have a line of credit through Bank of America. I was told it was a personal loan and the balance would go down each month. (I had consolidated 3 credit cards). I just found out it is technically called a line of credit and the interest is 23%! I am going to be applying for a mortgage soon and I know it looks like "potential debt" and that looks negative. But, is it worse to have the account closed and still be paying it off, or to pay it off then close it?

I am trying to rebuild my credit after ID theft and a couple of small misteps I made. I obtained a secured credit card and another credit card - should I charge something each month and pay it off immediately? Or just not charge anything and have the credit cards? Which has the most positive impact on raising your credit scores? They are low limit cards and I am in a position to pay them off each month. thank you!

Is anyone else upset with Washington Mutual Bank sending them so called pre-approved credit card letters when in fact you are not pre approved? Does anyone else feel the verbiage is misleading and should instead say something like Invited to apply or Pre-selected to apply like Amex and other reputable lenders do? I was under the impression that by law if you're pre-approved it’s just that and that the lender could not turn you down?

Correct me if I'm wrong but when you "pay for deletion" you are paying for any record of the debt to be 100% removed from the report that a potential creditor would see (like when you buy a car or credit card) .

--BUT the debt is never actually deleted from the credit report that you and the CRA have access to.

So, there are actually 2 forms of credit report: one that potential creditors see, and one which only you and the CRA see.

Is this correct??

I am asking because in previous answers to my "pay for deletion" questions, alot of people are saying that debts are never 100% deleted from credit reports.
So that makes me wonder what the phrase "pay for deletion" means exactly?
Thanks!

paying a much lesser amount (say, $500 less) (settling) but without a guarantee of deletion?
Also, if you have something deleted, is it 100% gone from your report, (no record of it ever being there)?
Thanks for any help!

I have recently become engaged and am starting to stress out. My fiance and I want to start looking at houses and neither of our credit is great. I was turned into a collection agency once for 600 bucks, but besides that have paid my student loans and other bills on time usually. Is it impossible for us to get a home loan?

Im 25 years old and I have about $3,000 debt. I tried to pay off as much as I could but stupidly paid off the small balances first. Anyways, the majority of whats on my credit card is paid off, and I want to get it removed but can you do that? I cant even call these companies because the phone numbers my credit report lists are disconnected. I want to do the right thing but I dont even know where to start. Oh and there is a judgement on my credit report statement saying that I owed 15 grand in city taxes from when I was 17 years old but it was later corrected to a measly $95 and that has been paid but the 15 grand remains on my report. Is there any hope at all to get this resolved?
