Not if you live in the US. We no longer have debtors' prisons here. A collection agency may hire a lawyer or work using a lawyer's license, but that does not exempt them from the law.
It is against the law for them to threaten you with jail. The worse thing that they can to is to take you to court to try to get a judgment against you. If they do, they can put liens on your bank accounts and other assets and garnish your wages in some states.

usually no. its not a 'crime'. they can only get a "judgement" against you. which stays on your credit record for i believe 7 years. its the most negative thing on your record next to bankruptcy.

think about it this way... some people don't pay their mortgage... all they do even with fancy lawyers is eventually get the house back. cuz its not a crime, per se. the only thing they have is that u violated their contract. and its a bank or business. not the government. the bank cant send u to jail.

If you can't pay your credit card bill then speak to someone about consolidation, or bankrupcy as a last resort. There is no such thing as a "debtor's prison" anymore. They'll likely just garnish your wages.

It depends on the fine print in the credit disclosure but I don't think so. It will kill your credit for the nex 10yrs or so because it will show up on your vredit bureau and will destroy it! Why don't you just work with them and pay it back a little at a time??

Very doubtful, they harrass you to scare you, more than likely you will not go to jail, It will hurt your credit of course but I seriously doubt you will go to the slammer.
