I was offered 50% of my current balance, but I can't afford the payments. Is it possible that they would go any lower. Today was the first time I have spoken to them and that is what they offered, I told them I can't afford the payments (they wanted $1400 a month for four months--- are they insane? If I could afford that my payments wouldn't be behind 4 months!!!). Is it possible that they would settle for less with lower monthly payments? I really can't afford what they offered and I want to pay them (after all, it is my debt), but if that is what it will cost I don't think I will ever get out of debt! What do you think? I would really appriciate any responses.
Thank you in advance.

I have been married for 2 years now and we have not had a credit card at all. We were thinking about getting one to establish some credit history (other than just paying bills on time). We know that our primary concern is to get a Visa or Mastercard that has rewards with it. We were considering a Carnival card. What do you recommend we look for in a credit card?

In the past, my parents have used my identity (name, SSN etc.) to take out loans and credit cards. I only found out when looking at my credit report recently. I want to strike these items from my credit history, but I don't want to press charges because they're still paying my college tuition. I'm furious at them, but I think they did not entirely understand the severity of their actions. Is there anything I can do to clear the entries on credit history without pressing charges? Should I wait until I'm no longer a dependent of them?

I think this should be given in all highschools , all 4 years make it mandatory ,,, just as important as English , Math , Science,etc.. since understanding money , and credit is only learned now by trial and error many young adults start off life already in the hole,, credit card companies have full time positions of persons coming up with ways to creatively think up unnecessary charges!

i have a credit card which is 31% interest(i didn't really pay attention when i got the card) i have a balance but want to close the account so as the balance goes down the temptation of charging won't be there. if i close the account for that reason and not the lender closing is it better on my credit report?

Hi,

I got a message earlier and I just called back. It was my creditcard company! They were actually a lot friendlier than I thought they would be...and to think I've been avoiding them :). Well, they offered to lowere my intersest from 25% to 2%, which is really cool but I still can't afford to pay them. Then I said something that triggered the person on the phone to say, "Oh, so you want to settle?" Then he offered to cut my balance in half (this is a BIG balance), but there was a catch- I have to pay off the account in 4 months at $1500 a month!!! Anyways, sorry for the long story. Here's my question- Do you think they will go any lower? I mean, that was their first offer and if I can't pay it what options do they have? They're going to write off the account as a loss anyways and I know my account is insured. Also, if I do settle can they sell the remaining amount to collections? I feel bad, but it didn't help that when times got rough they jacked the interest rate way up.

I received a $30 check from Paul F Clem and Aaron P Clem in Santa Monica, CA and is from a JP Morgan bank account in Delaware OH. The check was processed from a payment processing cener in Phoenix. I have never heard of this person(s) and I don't know why they sent me this check. Has anybody else received something similar? It looks like a scam to me but I will really appreciate any help. Thank you

My brother -- the one with terrible credit -- wants me to co-sign for a car loan. I know he will not repay the loan on time. He isn't even making the payments on the vehicle he is trying to replace. I've never been late or missed a payment in my entire life. I'm trying to avoid being the bad guy by not co-signing.

I do not want to become liable for any charges he may make. Is there anything I can do to make sure he can't sign up for credit or at least make it a little more difficult for him while we are married? I have thought of putting a fraud alert on my credit file, which I would think would show up if he tried applying for credit while we are still married. Any advice or previous experiences you can share?
