There are home loans for people with average or slightly below average credit.
For those with poor and horrible credit, we have these things called apartments until you get yourself together.

Probably not.Too big of a risk.Try your local housing authority,they may have info on HUD housing or government loans for first time home owners.

Yes, there are tons of them out there... but they usually require a much larger downpayment, somewhere around 10-20% down.
