I have been married for 2 years now and we have not had a credit card at all. We were thinking about getting one to establish some credit history (other than just paying bills on time). We know that our primary concern is to get a Visa or Mastercard that has rewards with it. We were considering a Carnival card. What do you recommend we look for in a credit card?

You need a credit card that does not give (REWARDS) this is a suckers game. One that comes with ZERO annual renewal payments, an interest rate that start at 14.9% or less. Check around these cards are out there.

If you use the card for things like a vacation, and then send a check to pay it off in full, you will increase the credit level of your card. My creditors like the fact that I have 5 creditors that have given me $7,500 or more on my credit cards. They think that it is good that my credit balances on all 5 cards is about $500.00. Never carry credit balances if at all possible.

Although the interest rate start low, if you miss a payment or fail to pay the minimum, the card people will jack you up in interest. Building assets on the side that can be converted to pay off the cards is the thing that most people do not do. THE REASON IS THAT NO ONE TOLD THEM THAT THEY SHOULD BUILD THEIR LIFE ON THEIR OWN MONEY.

No fees and the lowest interest rate you can get. Credit cards are a great way to establish credit. Say you get a card with a $2,000.00 line of credit, go out and purchase something you need and pay it off as soon as you can. Good rule of thumb is if you can't pay it off in 90-days? You can't afford it.

After doing this several times, you will have established your credit.

Another thing to consider is that most banks when deciding weather to loan someone money look for a loan that has been paid at least 12-times, been paid as agreed and the amount borrowed is over $1,000.00. This shows that you have the ability to pay and the discipline required to manage your money.

The interest you pay is a small price for establishing your good credit. If you take care of it? It will take care of you.

Get 2 cards, one Chase Visa rewards, one MC Bank of America for whatever airline you like.

Ask for a $500 limit on each card. Pay it off every month except for about $10 (to establish the loan) and then save 10% of your income every month and put it into a Money Market Mutual fund.

Good luck.

I suggest you look at some of the big banks first like Bank of America or even American Express. They have questionaire's that help tailor what sort of card you need and want.
I have provided a link for other things to consider such as interest rate and annual fees. since this will be your first card, you might also look at getting a department store card, and then a major CC.
Good luck

No yearly fees, low interest, be sure to pay them off every month, they are all a trap and will suck the life out of you given the chance, they should be illegal. Good luck.
