Does having delinquent hospital bills reflect negatively on your credit? I'm a student, I do not have a full time job, therefore I don't have health insurance. I have had to go to the hospital from time to time though, and I've went to a county hospital for people who don't have health insurance. Still, I have received hospital bills, in outrageous amounts of money, none of which I can afford to pay. They have been calling me about payment plans, ect..I don't even have a way to arrange a payment plan with them right now, that's how strict my budget is while I'm in school. Will this show up negatively on my credit?

I have screwed up pretty bad in my past, mostly with hospital bills that never got paid and an old bank account that was overdrawn. I have NEVER had a credit card though, but every time I apply for one, I get turned down. Now, I'm currently a student and have taken out some student loans. When I start to repay them, will this help build my credit? I would really like to be able to establish some kind of credit for when I finish college. Where do I start?

I took a loan out in 1989 that I never repaid in full because I ended up moving out of town. I basically forgot about it while starting my life over again in a new city. Now 17 years later the bank is calling me asking me to start paying the loan. They just called me threatening to send the sheriff out to confiscate my assets. Can they do this?
