I had a debt 20 years ago that was not paid and I get a call this current year asking to pay the loan. Now I need to know that after 7 years one is not liable to pay the bill. Then who are these people that calls you up harassing you about an old bill. They will call you and then hang up leaving you the option to call them back. They get smart with you and make you angry. These people say they are a collection agency but could be someone tapping into your credit report and illegal trying to get your money. Who do you report them too and what can I do about this situation?I do not mind paying the bill I just don't know who I am dealing with. The man told me a owned debt is never cleared. Help me out here.

My family and I our loosing our home of 14 years all because we tried to help someone out that had no where to go, and was homeless, and now because HUD calls her an unreported person, we have lost our housing assistance and I am unable to work because of my disablity, we have no where to go, we have tried appealing HUDS decision but got denied, and have tried several agencies but got turned away because of lack of funds. Now my landlord tells us she has filed eviction papers, so with not much time what do we do, looking for any helpful advice, even tried getting a loan but with no bank account and bad credit we are unable to get one.

i bought a motorcycle under my name, i got a loan from school, and i have a job that gets me through, just barely like most college students. I have no credit, and would like to get a good credit score relatively quick to get a credit card as emergency money. I know most people my age spend money like crazy, but i do not as between school and work, theres only time for a movie, and i just enjoy time with friends. can anyone give a kid some advise?

This is inregard to going to the Internet using the web site www.annual credit report.com .to get one's free credit report from the three main credit report companies " Experian "
. " Equifax" , and " Transunion " (sp).. Although by a new law , one can get a free credit report " one time " , is there a " gimmick " whereby you are inviting all kinds of spam people to bombard you with sales deals , or worse , requiring you to make purchases ?
Appreciate feedback !

I know the simple answer is to pay off your debt, but I have also been told by paying off credit cards and closing them that hurts your credit too. So whats the best economic pattern to follow.

Hello --
I am currently 15 years old and am thus limited to using gift cards for making online purchases (and naturally I don't have a credit card), I know most stores will allow the purchase of gift cards without a credit card although I know a small minority won't, in a Walmart though is it possible to do this without a credit card and just with cash?

Has anyone used a credit consolidation company? I am seriously considering using one that has a good reputation, but I was told that I will have to close out ALL of the credit cards that are on the repayment with them!!! For anyone who may know anyway, will closing out all of my credit cards (with maxed out credit limits!) adversely affect my credit rating?? I know it will, but to what extent?? Thank you for any advice.

What do you think of 19%? I'm 24, never had a credit card, about to return to school for a master's. This card is Capital One, no annual fee, interest rate of 19.8% variable. It seems okay to me, what's your opinion?

We didnt pay the credit card and 10 years worth of interest and fees have made it go from $360 to $2800. Is there anything we can do to not have to go to court to make the amount become less or do we have any recourse because it has been so long?
