I have a collection on my report for an amount and the original lender on my report for the same amount. Should one be off or is it ok for them to have both on the report?

Both will be listed. You can try to dispute one, but they have the right to list both. The account number and referring creditor usually identifies the match on your credit report.

Sometimes you can negotiate for the collector to eliminate the negative reference if you meet their payment criteria. They may demand payment in full, or may even accept a settlement for less than the full amount. Whatever arrangements you can negotiate, make sure you get them in writing.

No, they cannot duplicate the debt. Dispute it with the bureau and it will come off.
