Hello, i am in a real mess here. I got a call last week from a Presily Williams from a company called portfolio management demanding 4500 for discover card. I told this Presily i had a Discover card, a long time ago, then he went on telling me yeah thats what you owe on it now. I told him i would have to check my credit report. Then he got mad and told me look i have to get this out pd now or else see you in court, then you will loose your house and my paycheck. I told him i dont have the money! He then told me i could pay 3k, go take our a equity line of credit on your house/ then pay it. He is giving me 20 days/ i just got a demand letter from an attorneys office in new jersey spelling our the agreemend this Presily presented. I went to take a look at my credit report from 5 years ago when we bought our house, it showed it was charged off in 3/1999 at 2400. The mortage is in my wifes name, i had some financial issues in the past. We live in Michigan. Help Advise please

I have been pre approved by Canadian Lenders Association for a loan, I believe they are a scam outfit as they want a retainer, so the rep is emailing me, and what should I be asking him for as proof of a legit company?

Are Visa and MasterCard really competing against each other if they always go together and are effectively interchangeable?

Our credit is pretty bad, I know this even without viewing a credit report. Besides the obvious (pay off the debt), what's the best way to rebuild your credit. DH says that when you start paying off the debt that it starts showing good credit on your report. But how good is it really? I mean, it still shows that you haven't paid the bill in X amount of months/years, right? Can't the people that are approving you for a credit card or loan or job still see that it was unpaid for that amount of time, or no? I would think if they could that most places would still want to deny you because of it.

I was given this as an alternative to filing for bankruptcy and would like some more info from anyone who has been there and done that...thank you.

My sister in law is a single parent on a council estate who has been totally ripped off by these people. They knock on the doors of people they suspect will struggle to obtain loans elsewhere, or may not have time to do so, and get them to sign up for loans at 177% APR !!! I know she has to accept some responsibility, but the premiums are so high, we are going to have to organise her a new loan with a longer term and lower interest rate so she can afford the monthly premiums. In the past, when she is near to completing paying off one loan, they turn up on her doorstep and offer her another, no affordability checks, no credit checks, etc, they take their NI numbers so if they stop paying, they can get the money straight from their salaries. I would really like to complain about these people, but I looked them up on the internet and as far as I can see they aren't even regulated! Has anyone else had any experience with these 'Lenders'? Any advice greatly appreciated.
