Im paying settlement amnts on my credit cards which have been seriously past due for a cpl years. They are closing the accnt with the settlement payments, Im making great headway in the past 2 months, 3 are settled. Im very proud of myself, but I am concerned on how long it will take for my score to go up. I notice that the accnts I had settled are still on the report, saying charged off or what have ytou. How do I make sure these come off the report or at least show that I have paid them a fair amount to close it? I request a letter from each stating that I have settled, do I need to contact all 3 agencies with a copy of the letter stating I want that reflected on my report? I hope someone here knows what Im talking about and has been through the same thing . Plz give advice on my next step to ensure my credit report will reflect the progress Ive made Thx.

Hello, i am just looking for some advise. about 4 weeks ago my parents recived a phone call at 730am from some one asking for my wife but in her maden name. my parents ask what the call was about and this gentle man claimed he is with the irs and it is about a 1099 form. My parents then called me right away and told me to call this guy. So i did first thing he ask was a ssn#, i did not have it. then i gave him a case #. Then he came back and said that your wife owes us 2900 now for a 5 year old capital one card, or else we are going to sue you for 5500. I told him i have no idea with this is about and i will have to contact her. He told me i have to pay him now or else. I was thinking he was a con. I did ask my wife and she said that had a capital one card, she did 5 years ago when she lived in Texas now we live in MN. We did get a letter from an attorneys office one week later. Thx tim

I am trying to purchase a car my credit is pretty low...I tried and I couldn't even get a $20,000 car, the bank was only willing to give me $8,000. The reason is I have a charge off on my credit from my VERY first car. I still owe that company 4k. The car doesn't work and is worth nothing. So I'm stuck with it. I was a different person then and at a different point in my life. I have a steady income now, but I feel like this charge off is a scarlet letter! What can I do???

I was offered a program by a Sears customer service rep to bring my acct. back to good standing. The offer was no finance charges and no late fees for a year. Which started in Nov 05? As of January I've been charged finance charges. I've called them numerous times between Feb and Today. Every time I call I get transferred to a supervisor or a manager. They say there was a computer glitch and to call back anywhere between a couple of days to a month to verify that the charges are credited back to the acct. I am on program: 148, status code: 42, whatever that means. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I noticed the first collection agency name "Arrow Financial Service' was reporting on my credit report for a debt and was updated in July 2006, then I recieved a letter from in infamous Ken Hughes ( Merchants Credit Guide} on July 6, 2006, about the same debt for First Premier Bank. I have been keeping up copies of my credit report and it shows that account was 30 days late as of Oct. 2000 and it led to a charge off in Feb. 2001. What I want to know will "KEN" try to re-age this debt? I hear rumors about him all the time. The SOL in my state is 7 years.

Capital One sent me an offer for a pre-approved Preferred Plus Platinum MC with a credit line of up to $5000.

But I already have a MC with Capital One and had one for the past two years.

I mean I'd prefer that they just raise my credit limit on my old card instead of another account. So why are they doing this? Is there an advantage for them somehow? It's a no annual fee card.

Which looks best on your credit?

Back in 2003. Despite detailed records, receipts, complaints to the Department of Justice, police, et cetera. No one helped me or even offered me any advice on how to proceed. As a result, my truck was reposessed in 2004, and despite trying to catch up, my credit still suffered.

Fast forward to 2006. Prior to this incident, my credit report was beautiful. I had R1s all the way down the board. I had long, established credit histories, which were all current. Besides the repo, I've also had stuff hit collections. I've NEVER done a charge off because I opted to pay the full amount in hopes that this would look pleasing on my record.

Is there really no help or no restitution to repair my credit? I've hit a brick wall each and every time. I'm STILL trying to play catch up to this day. It's frustrating because I want to buy a house, but I'm afraid my score isn't what lenders are looking for. Does my credit score BEFORE mean anything in this case, since I'm a victim of ID fraud?
