when u r authorized on a credit card that has been active and paid for years, does the authorized users credit report show the same amount of time when its reported ?

I TOTALLY disagree with the two previous posters.

While there are a small handful of companies that will not report AU's, the majority will. If yours does not start reporting in a month or two after you were added, call them and request that they start reporting. Sometimes they don't report simply because they were not given your SSN when you were added.

Being an AU, you will get "ALL" of the history of that account on your credit reports.

Do not sign up as a joint user. You will then be liable for the account should something happen to the original account holder.

If you are only an authorized user, then no information about the card will appear on your credit report.

If, however, it is a joint account, (you are both responsible for the bill) then information would be reported to both parties credit reports.

as an authorized user you have nothing to do with the billing or paying the bills
therefore it doesn't do anything for your credit report
