I was fired from my job two weeks ago without any prior warning. I had worked there for just under 6 weeks. I had worked nearly half the day when my Supervisor says I'm fired and its her fault for hiring someone without more experience and only having a secretary to train me. She did pay me for the rest of the week. I'm a medical assistant. Is there anything i can do?

If it helps, I live in Maine

my father and I are living with relatives and now are trying to get into a mobile home I found for $9,500. But the mobile home is about 1.5 hours where we are staying, and I am currently in college, so at least for now my father would have to get a job in that area in order to payments, because at the present time he is unemployed and only gets $700/month from retirement. They do have a hospital in that area which is hiring housekeepers, and I did an online application for him, but how can I ensure that he will get the job? It sounds like an easy enough job for someone with his experience, and he worked as a custodian for almost 40 years. What can he do now that is likely to get him hired? Because it would really be out of the way to have to go all the way down there just to visit the hospital unless it was while we were going to see the lady about the house. So whay should my father do in order to get hired now that I have his application in?

Need help deciding which of these 2 careers to pursue. Please give me your opinions. I have a family with young children so that is a major deciding factor for me in terms of which would be best for my family. Here is what I know so far:

Dental Hygiene
PROS- days, no nights or weekends; great starting pay; only about 2 year program; clinicals for the two years are only 1-2 days a week for only about 4 hrs which is doable
CONS- Can only work day shift, no options for working nights or weekends if needed, may be hard to find full-time employment and medical benefits; hygienists suffer from back and neck problems and carpal tunnel

Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
PROS- can work any time, day/night/weekend, good starting pay, usually have medical benefits
CONS- Longer school, about 3 yrs, the first 2 for x-ray tech and the 3rd for sonography; clinicals are 40 hour weeks for 3yrs which is like a fulltime job for 3 yrs and I don't know if I can handle it or if it will be worth it.

My assignment is to interview someone from the career that I'm interest in - which is RN. I have some few questions to ask about your job. I'd like to know what it's like being a nurse in someone view. My questions are:

What is your name? [ Don't worry, you can fake this ]
How long have you been a nurse / RN?
What are your educational background?
What are the responsibilities of your job?
What is a typical day in this job like?
What part of this job do you fid the most satisfying?
Did you always planned to be in nurse / a job like this?
What training or education is required for this type of job?
What opportuniy for advancement are there in this filed?
Is there a demand for people in this occupation?
From you prespective, what are the problems do you see working in this field?
And lastly, what special advice would you give to a person entering this filed?

Thank you - I appreciate the help.

I ask this question because I got an offer letter from a company in November 2007 which indicated that the job will commence on January 3rd, 2008. And I signed the offer letter. Today, in December 2007, I received another better offer which the job will commence on January 2nd, 2008. I prefer the second offer which will start on January 2nd, 2008. But I want to keep the two offers available at the same time. Because I am afraid if I cancel the first offer right now, and the second company cancel their offer after, I will not have a job . So I wonder if I can give the first company the cancellation notice on January 2nd, 2008 after I start my new job in the second company. Do I have any legal obligations to obey the first offer letter? Can I just send a email to cancel the offer letter?

I've been considering going into either massage therapy or nursing when I graduate from high school, but I've heard some negatives for both jobs. For example, massage therapy can be physically demanding and can cause carpotunnel.

But with nursing, the hours are hard, and its physically and mentally exhausting.

What to people who have, or experienced, these carreers think about them?

A temp from temp agency is new on assignment and says the following:
1. All these folder/files on the desk are driving me crazy. I want to organize this desk.
2. I want to move all these files and folders around on the desk without knowing the reason why they are in a particular spot.
3. Tells the boss "Will I see you on Monday" when leaving for the weekend.
4. Tells the boss "I will see you tomorrow".
5. The boss notices she goffs off if told by boss, she will be in late in the morning or from lunch.
6. Goes on company website for personal banking when told to do some job in particular.

Are 1 and 2 appropraite for a temp?

I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to computers, but I don't know everything. I want to make some money on my own, but I'm not sure how. I've considered selling screensavers I've created, but I'm not very far in that yet. I've also thought about selling homemade desktop backgrounds, but have now nixed that idea, mostly. I might come back to it later. Are there any easy but helpful occupations I could work that would get me a bit more money?

Please tell me if you need more information.

Weird stuff is happening at work. I have a good-paying job (at the moment), but I don't think the group I work with thinks I have the right qualifications (the academic criteria needed). I've seen them interview people for my position before Thanksgiving, & they keep on stalling my project. I'd reasonably see people starting in the new year, not before the holidays, so I think I have no job security

I feel like they're going to get rid of me 12/28 - It's a Friday & the last day of the year. I haven't been doing any work for a while, & it's like they don't trust me with any. They give me something out of obligation it seems rather than necessity

You'd think that people would just get rid of someone b/c someone just didn't work out. The argument there is that some people were nasty & harassing to me when I first started; others sabotaged my work to make me look unqualified. The truth is, I can do my job. The other truth is that they may want someone who looks good on paper

call your manager at your current employer to ask questions about you?

2007-12-07 11:52:40 · 5 answers · asked by Anonymous in Other - Careers & Employment

My wife just started a new job as a server. While in computer training and server training they only paid her $3.15/hour.

While in training she was not allowed to collect tips, and at most her trainer would buy her a $6-$10 meal for a 4-8+ hour shift. She did ask for tips once and was given $12 dollars out of the $100+ they made that night.

Texas minimum wage is $6.55/hour which puts this restaurant far below minimum wage during training. There was not a single night that she earned minimum wage including meals and a few dollars thrown her way while in training.

To top this all off, I specifically told her to question her hourly rate while in training and she was told she is making $6/hour by her manager while in training.

She likes the job and doesn't want to lose it, so what is there to do? Something like this can make it nearly impossible to get another serving job in the same city, especially when it's a locally owned VERY popular franchise.

I'm considering becoming a physicians assistant but I've always wanted to be a pediatric nurse because I love working with kids. So is there a special major I need to take to specialize in children or would I just work at a childrens hospital or something...I'm also debating whether to be a physicians assitant or RN so any tips on that would be great!!

I only have a decent amount of experience in one field. (Veterinary Assistant.) It seems as if no one will hire me. I have applied for other job but due to my lack of experience in, lets say, customer service I do not get hired. I have applied at every place near my house for the veterinary assisting....
Do you think I have run out my resources?

I signed up for a job at wendys since its a walk away from my house plus I need to save up for school....education is not free...sadly.

Anyway I got a call back and was very thrilled since my job searching days are over.

But the manager there said it takes two interviews and thinks I would be be perfect.

So she said she will call me either tomorrow or in two days so I can talk to manager number two.

She calls and tells me to come in.

So she has me fill out alot of paper work I mean alot....so an hour later am done.

She tells me she messed up and the manager was not here today but will call me in two days and it is possible I have to write all over again.

So after the two days I call her and she said something about the other manager but she will call.

Now its been three days and no calls...did they give up on me?
Is the other manager ever going to call?
Is this even normal?

does that mean they don't want to hire you? I applied at a restaurant, got to the second interview, then told them the reason I was fired(scheduled against my availability and was unaware, and therefore didn't show). I applied two months after the interview, and just did it again the other day, and this was the reply I got upon turing in my application. Should I ask them if I should even bother the next time I apply?
