I'm talking about a career in computers that pays well, but doesn't require a college degree. Many people insist that you have to have a college degree to get ahead nowadays, and that all the good computer jobs are pretty much gone. They claim that this especially true of computer repair jobs, as computers nowadays are practically throwaway technology (in other words, they're so cheap, that if they break, you just toss them out when they break , and buy new ones).

I'm 18 years old and I have been an A+ Certified computer technician since I was 14 years old (one of the youngest in the world).

I have 4 years of experience with computers as well as business practices.

I have had my own small computer business at 15 so I consider myself a young entrepreneur.

I have plenty of experience with marketing (especially target marketing to the hispanic community).

I am fluently bilingual in English and Spanish. I know intermediate French and basic Italian, Portuguese and I'm learning Greek.

I graduated from High School with honors and was accepted to a very good private school

I changed my major from Computer Engineering to International Business (Administration) - starting in Summer '08.

I am currently working for a global computer company (not mentioned for privacy purposes) as a Level 1 Tech Support Rep getting payed $13.00 an hour (Is this good for being bilingual?)

I am financially independent (pay for everything of mine except my car)

I come in to work and try to be in a good mood as often as possible. I like to be friendly towards other coworkers as well as work hard. I'm pretty outgoing and it makes me feel good to see others smile. Recently, it seems my bosses have something against me. It seems they are jealous of how other coworkers confide in me. I work very hard yet nothing seems to be good enough. I swear it's like they have it out for me. It's really bringing me down. How do I get on their good side without changing how I act towards others?

I am interested in becoming changing career paths and would like to do something in the medical field. I've done a lot of research and I am interested in the Rad. Tech. program at MedVance. I have requested additional information on the program but I'm pretty sure I won't hear back til after the holidays. Has anyone been through the program? What's it like? How much was it? Please provide as much information as you can. Thanks! :)

I work for a very small company. I don't really have a job title, but I do little things such as payroll, account payables, some sales, some general office duties. Like I said, LITTLE THINGS, I don't entirely do these things. I do some of it. But I've been frustrated with work lately because one of my coworkers, whom everyone seems to like, is pretty much bossing me around. I sit about 5 feet away from, and she would email me askin' me to prepare her fedex label shippings, look for folders, go file things, and so on. And I have to reply to her when these things are done. It really pissed me off. Sometimes, not only I don't do these things, and I also don't reply to her email. Apparently, she's been given complete authority over me. I want to leave the job because I feel like I can spend my time doing better things than being someone's *****. I would love to do more, but they're more interested in having someone to do these filthy things. Should I talk to the boss and speak my mind?

I am graduating in may from a college in NC with a degree in electrical and computer engineering. I'm not asking where in the state to work but where to look online to find a job for a new college graduate. Places like monster.com never has any thing for entry level engineering or all they have listed is recruiting firms which doesn't really interest me.

We had a career fair for engineering but the company turn out was very poor. I am also a member of IEEE and i just placed my resume on their employement site.

A friend accepted a job 4 months ago; he resigned his previous job in good terms. The job he accepted was not a good fit. My friend and the company decided that it was best for him to leave. So he asked his former employer if he could go back to work. Former employer accepted. If he is offered another position (another company), will it be a wise move to accept it? If he stays with his current employer he will not advance professionally.

I'm 16 and today i went to work for my first day at my local supermarket. I got there at 6 in the morning before opening, and there was this girl there and she was stacking shelves. my line manager then told me to give her a hand. after a few minutes she said 'i have to go, you keep working this' that annoyed me alot as i was new. then a few minutes after she came round and told me to mop the aisle, so i said 'why don't you, it doesn't look like it needs it anyway'. then she goes 'do it.you really don't want to argue with me.' so i did that then she says 'now go and mop round the corner' i got annoyed so i said 'who says?' she says 'i do.' then i got really annoyed and said 'isn't it your job? then she goes 'i'm the ADM if you don't ******* stop answering back, i will throw you out of here personally'
and it turns out she is later she was in her suit walking around, shes like 23 though and looks younger, she got fastracked apparently. it was an easy mistake. how can i make amends?

It has been in the making for about a year now that after my past supervisor left to become a CNA I would continue in her position. ( I work at Subway) Well now that I and another girl are in charge, I am getting a lot of crap from my former co-workers.
I feel it may be because I am either younger or the same age as all of the people I work with. But I have been there for three years, and the owners have already recognized that I am their best worker which led them to the decision to move me up.
Everyone argues with me, and talk crap about me now..I don't know how to handle it, it sends me home in a bad mood everyday now.

I've always been curious about this. I happen to have bad vision in one eye. Even with corrective lenses this eye doesn't meet the minimums for a CDL or to become a cop. Isn't this a form of discrimination, or some kind of selective discrimination? I mean, I see plenty of overweight or out of shape cops, short cops, etc. Who's to say that their "disability" isn't any worse than mine for that job?

Don't say "it's because you can't shoot" because I hunt and can shoot with the best of them. I also don't have trouble parking cars or judging distances. Your mind compensates for that in other ways (paying attention to shadows or moving your head around a little to judge depth, etc.). I just think it's discrimination. What do you think?

I have two job interviews with two excellent companies. The first interview will be next week and the second interview will be two weeks after the first one. Normally, the interviewer asks if the candidate is interviewing with other companies or have been looking around for other companies. I think the first company will need my answer to their offer before the second interview. I think the answer to this question is VERY difficult especially:

1-If you say: Yes, I have another interview after this interview: The interviewer might think that you are not serious about the company and you are still looking. Therefore, this may put me behind other candidates. Besides, they may offer me a different benefit package since I am not that serious (as they think).
2-If you say: No, I have no other interviews at this time: The interviewer might think either that you are interested in the company only (good sign), or your qualifications are not that attractive to other employers (bad sign-small

I have worked at my job for 7 months. It is a very small company with only 5 employees. A couple weeks ago my boss told me that we get December 24th and 25th off work and December 31st and January 1st off for the holidays. I had already checked the employee manual and had noticed those days were listed as paid holidays, so he wasn't telling me anything new. (By the way, I'm salaried) I have excellent attendance, but I did call in sick to work this past Thursday (horrible sinus infection). As we were all leaving work last night, my boss stopped me and told me that I need to report to work on Monday (Christmas eve) since I missed work Thursday. He's not making anyone else come in, just me! I'm not behind on my work, so it's not because I need to catch up. He's just punishing me. Since this day is listed as a paid holiday in the employee handbook, isn't he breaking the law? He is NOT planning on paying me time and a half. Could he fire me if I don't come in? (I'm in Indiana)

I am an application/technical support analyst basically help desk providing support for end users supporting about 350stores around the US etc etc you get the picture.
I am not happy with the company I'm with, I really like what I do and have grown so much in the position I'm in but the raises here are bad. I got a $.30 raise this yr with a meeting expectations review. People who have been here 8 years only make $1 more than me.

Conclusion: Its a small dept which would mean no room to move around AT ALL. raises wouldn't be that great next year either so I dont want to wait around. Been here 1 1/2 years and I think its time to move on.

So what would I tell my next employer why I'm leaving my position? I am applying for the same position with prospects of better pay and oppurtunity to move up. Can I say that?

I have good ideas about how to work at my job and improve things, but I don't know if I should be the idea person as it may be threatening to my boss.

I always work to help, rather than be a one-upper, but I also need to be sensitive to others as well.

My boss doesn't seem to not like my ideas/suggestions, but if my gut tells me I should watch how to move, I try to listen (haven't done it in the past).

I don't know if this will affect my chances in my getting raises or bonuses. My boss's boss doesn't like me and I'm not sure who decides what. I don't work directly under my boss's boss (obviously), so unless she's told of my efforts, she won't know them.

I don't want to take more on and look like a doormat, and think it's good to come up with solutions and have initiative.

Please help me in what's best to do in the workforce.
