I am trying to decide if i should be a Carpenter or a Mechanic. Now, I mean any kind of mechanic not just the ones at goodyear. Also any type of carpenter, framing, finishing, cabnet making., ect. As far as I know is that carpenters can make better money in the long run and I could eventually become a foreman or even a project manager. The thing that worries me is people say that the union isn't very reliable and you can be out of work for sometime. Also people say it is dangerous. (I think only because you have to work around poeple in the union). Now being a mechanic I think I wouldn't make as much, and I would always have to work for someone and never start doing my own thing. However, I figure its less dangerous and more stable. My gandfather was a carpenter and killed himself making his own houses after work, but he made alot of money that way. I would like to eventually make around $70,000 a year. Also I live in Sacramento, California.
People who know let me know???

I have a friend/coworker that got a new job. She is worried that giving notice will get her fired. so she's going to wait til the "last minute" to tell managment. This means the rest of the department gets screwed- especially me cause I have to cover until a replacement is found. The other girls that know want to say something also. We've asked her to tell so that they can get a replacement trained BEFORE she leaves but she refuses...... what can we do???? we don't want to get screwed!!!!

How does one go about going after an employer who constantly issues Non sufficient funds paychecks. The said employer also caused an employee to lose his Drivers License for not sending payment to the state for Child Support the money he had deducted from the employees check?

junk! "Work from home!","Be your own boss!","Training provided!","No experience or education needed!""Make 10k each month from home!" If it was that easy, why doesn't everyone do it? No education or experience needed and you still make 10K/month. Who can pass that up? Maybe someone with an education that might know that the real world does not hand you a 6 figure income with no experience or education. Poor suckers. All I am getting at is, why does Yahoo or Hot Jobs put more filters in place to keep the crap out? Who is benefiting from this?

Hi. Anybody work at barnes and nobles? The problem is I do bad at interviews and usually do not get called back for the job and I know I'm a hard worker. Anybody know what kind of job interview questions they ask when getting a job at barnes and nobles? I'm interested in working the information desk or shelving books. I'm not expecting a management position.

Any constructive advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have been working on a short contract at Three in Maidenhead through Project People. The work is advanced
MS Access development. Because of my age I now find it difficult to get work, I'm 53.
I had been out of work for 4 months and took this contract at £10.00 ph. The normal rate for
this type of work is around £35 ph. The work will actually take about three months.
I've had many problems with the agency. Too many to list here. They are appalling.
I've tried to negotiate the rate with the agency with out success. I had to negotiate
an extension of the contract with Three myself because the agency did nothing. Should I ask Three
if they will go through a different agency ? it will break the contract they have with
Project People. Do you know which other agencies Three uses. Will I even get paid by
Project People I've been told so many lies by them I wonder if they are crooks. I'm also
considering asking Three how much they pay the agency ?

I am a graduate student. Recently, my university chose me to in the university's Brochure as a "Hero" story.

It's a wonderful thing. I am just wondering how can I use this opportunity to enhance my competitive advantages. Can I put this in my resume on a reward section?

I hope to pursue my Ph.D and my career in the United Nations, NGOs, or Non-profit organizations. It's a very competitive world out there. Any suggestion on this? Thank you so much for your kindness.

From what I have read you can asure yourself of not getting hired with the wrong answer. I have tried to reasearch the salary range for the job, but its hard when the area I will be covering is so large. Former job paid to low for level of responsibility, I covered 1 state and 30 facilities, New job 19 facilities and 4 states. (potential for more facilities as co. grows)

I have been asked to be a supervisor.

I am hard working, reliable and trustworthy.

I am reliable, I have been told by the manager that I lead by example and the manager trusts me to look after a team of 5, there are more people coming to work for us.

Thanks

I am wondering how long some people have ever been out of work? I do temporary jobs, but there has been no work lately. I refuse to collect unemployment and I don't think I could since I was not fired from my last job. Just curious.

If you applied for a job a year ago and you didn't get the position and now a year later you apply for that same position and they call you for an interview do you go? This is a state laborer position, it pays very well.
