I have been asked to be a supervisor.

I am hard working, reliable and trustworthy.

I am reliable, I have been told by the manager that I lead by example and the manager trusts me to look after a team of 5, there are more people coming to work for us.

Thanks

Oftentimes, really good workers end up being not-so-good supervisors. The traits and talents are a bit different.

As a worker, you're a team player. As a supervisor, you're a team leader.

As a worker, you have limited authority over your co-workers. As a supervisor, you do have authority over your subordinates, but if you think of them as subordinates, you're in bad shape already (first time supervisors can find themselves in hot water quickly if they adopt the "me-boss, you-worker" mentality).

As a worker, you allowed to focus on your tasks at hand. As a supervisor, you focus on everyone's tasks. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that if you work like a dog, everyone else will as well. But if there's hard work to be done, don't be absent.

Hopefully you're a people-person and a good listener. Be fair all the time. Be firm but compassionate. Your employees will measure you by how much you care for them.

Have team goals and vision. Have rewards for meeting them. Remember that one of the most important things you can do is to say "Thank You" for tasks well done.

And remember that you're responsible. For the good as well as the bad.

And see if you like it, some folks realize that they are great individual performers but can't stand supervising. That's okay, some others, really like being the team leader. It will help you figure out what you want to do in a job or career in the future.

The basic would be the skills Planning, Leading, Organizing, Delegating and Audit. If you have these basic skills the rest should be interpersonal skills and values.
