I am thinking about a career in mortgages. I have no experience in this area and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to get in this field. Also, if anyone can tell me what exactly does a mortgage originator do? I would appreciate it.

It seems that my problems are maintaining my professional contacts. I believe that my problems in networking are not the initial phase where I initiate conversation and even getting his/her business card. The issue is I don't know what to do after. How do I maintain this professional relationship without being too pushy? Thanks, in advance, for you answers!

Does someone get discriminated against not knowing a language applying for a job when you shouldn't have to know it?
For example: I know someone who is applying for a job at a school, wanting the same hours as her kids, and doesn't get the job over someone billingual, when she knows the language (english) in U.S.

I am currently employed and have accepted a new job offer which requres an extensive background check for a license to work there. They seem pretty pumped about getting me to work as soon as possible, but I want to give 2 weeks notice at my present job and do not think it would be wise to quit my current job until the new job is guaranteed. Should I call and remind the new job that I cant work for them immediately and that I have yet to give my notice pending their investigation? Or should I wait until they actually finish their investigation?

I work in IT for a big company but my job is about to be eliminated. The so called experts are saying that the job boards (monster dice etc) and even headhunters almost never work. Same for the company boards. They basically said unless you have a good network of people in your industry at different places, which I don't have because I worked for the same place with the same few people for years, landing another job will be near impossible. Is this true? If I don't have the contacts, how can I land a good job?

“Some Human Resource Managers complain that many students learn too much textbook theory at university, at the expense of what they perceive to be more important business skills such as original thought, creativity, and team-working. Consequently many graduates often have too high an estimation of their own abilities.”

Critically consider the validity of this perspective. To what extent should business organisations be able to exert greater influence and control over Universities?

-
I'm not asking for the answers (before anyone says anything!), just our view on the question.. Do you agree? Are you in a job and seen the structure of your workplace change due to graduates? Are you manager, do you favour graduates on applications? Are you a university student or graduate, what do you think about the statement?

Thank you for reading my question, and thanks for all constructive answers.. Cheers x

and going home for 4 months to holiday and doing this for say 4 years or so (As can earn more in London and save enough to not work for 4 months in Australia). As opposed to working full time in the home country (Australia) constantly.
All ive got so far is that it would look bad on my CV, having a lot of short term jobs (say 3 months each) when I do eventually want to apply for a permanent position.

I hurt my back (buldged L5S1 disk, pinching my siatic nerve) at work 17 months ago. I worked right down the street from my house in a small town in central Illinois. I have had surgery, 4 pain injections and 4 months of pysical therapy. I have been recieving TTD benifits for the last 17 months. I was told by workmans comp to start school while I was just sitting around. I was a tool, and die maker/CNC programmer, so i started school in Jan of 07 in Computer Aided Drafting. I am half way through my first semester now. I also found a job right down the street as an internship in Engineering and started a week ago part time while I'm going to school. My attorney said that it was a good idea and had it okayed by workmans comp.
Today I recieved a phone call from my attorney saying that I needed to quit my job and school now becuse workmans comp is setting me up with job placement.
Is this possible they can do this to me?
