We have a program to help financially in need families get their children into our before and after school programs. I need donations from businesses.

I hope your workplace is a charitable organization, it will make getting donations 1000 times easier.

Go to the businesses that you hope to get donations from and ask for the store manager (owner if it's a small business). Tell them what you are looking for, give them a letter showing your ID number if you are a charity organization, and ask them if they can help. Sometimes you will get more help if you let them suggest what they can donate before you tell them what you are looking for.

Large chain stores are not always good targets, I have asked them for donations before and was told they have a limited amount they are allowed to donate quarterly, so you have to be there on the first day of the quarter, or your request has to go through several levels of approval.

Put together a nice flyer explaning what it's for and pass it out.
