I work for state government and am thinking of changing agencies, because I'm dissatisfied with my current job. I would have to go to interviews during the day, I'm sure, but I get off at 4:30 and come in at 8:30 making it pretty easy to slip one in before or after work or during a lunch break. The only problem is that my office is pretty casual in my building. People that work on the same project that I do work across the street in another building wear more business attire, but not in my building. I'd look out of place. Should I start dressing up a day or 2 a week so this is established as the norm. I actually tried to do this in the past just because it made me feel better about myself and more professional and I felt really out of place all day. I also don't know how my new boss (part of why I want to leave) would react. Most of the time I'm better dressed than him in a polo and khakis. There is a state career fair I'd like to go to at the end of the month.

This person resigned months ago, but we discovered that his work was incomplete, and we are not being penalized for nonsubmission and late submission of several documents.
Can we still run after him? Is it correct to make him liable even if he is no longer with us? (Well, I'm thinking if we discovered it earlier while he is here, we would've fired him anyway.) So can we still use him as a reason for nonsubmittal or late submission of requirements to our clients?

Career advisors always say that you should tailor your resume (not just your letter) for the job you want.

I understand what tailor (or customize) means - but can someone get to brass tacks on this and tell me HOW you actually customize a resume to a job you want to apply for? I mean, my experience is my experience. I understand how to highlight skills and achievements, but I DON'T get how to customize my resume for a job that has, say, 20 very specific requirements listed.

Thoughts? Advice?

So the common notion is to always follow up sent resumes with a phone call to the employer a week or so later. But I am finding that the front lines of the employers aren't willing to forward me to their hiring staff, saying the company policy is not to allow phone followups. Since I don't have any "ins" at these companies (many of which are the big monolithic corporations), how can I get through to the hiring managers? Followup e-mails would seem to be useless since that is the same avenue used for sending resumes.

I would like to go to Missouri Western State University there, but have to have a job and a place to live first. I have my associates degree in business adminstration/accounting. I also have been working doing medical pain billing for the last 2 1/2 years. Any suggestions on jobs or the best place in the city to look.

I'll be graduating in 3 months, so I'm pretty sure they gave me the raise to get me to stick around after I graduate. $20/hour isn't exactly what I want to end up at, but it's not bad for someone who is still in college.

My question is, am I supposed to thank the owner for the raise? If so, what do I say? By thanking him am I indicating that I plan on staying there after graduation, because I'm not sure I want to. I really want to try to get into MIT.

Hi I'm a first year college student and I wanted to get a job part-time in the mall at a clothing store. I heard some places are really hard to get jobs and other places will just give you a job if you look good wearing the clothes form there.
Do You know anything about getting a job at these places?
Hollister
Lucky Brand Jeans
Express
Hot Topic
Abercrombie

Have you ever worked at any of these places or know anyone who has?
Is there anything specific I should know?

Thanx :)
