I am all stoked up because I get to fire my very first employee tomorrow. My boss has now put me in charge of notifying employees when they get fired or layed off. Basically i get to be the axe man, which is kind of cool I must say. How should I approach it and what should I say. I have already decided that I am going to let her work until 30 minutes before her shift is over then give her the news so she can't walk out and leave us short handed.

I thought about something like this. How does this sound? I go up to her and 30 minutes before her shift is over and say "Hey we are looking to cut payroll hours how would you like to go home now?" Knowing the lazy cow she is, she will gladly take the time off, then when she agrees I will say "Oh and one more thing, you are gonna have alot of time off from now on. In fact don't even bother coming back because we you're FIRED!!"

I'm a very talkative and energetic person and people seem to really enjoy my company. I work in an office environment now, but I think I might be better suited for a career that offers more interaction with people. Any suggestions?

I’m currently out of work and am wondering if there is a demand for a full time pallbearer? Many funerals I’ve attended have not had enough pallbearers and usually end up using a guy or two from the funeral home to assist. I’ve also noticed this looking at other funerals taking place at the same time.

So basically, I would offer my services as a self-employed pallbearer for a slight fee. I’m up early everyday, have a simple black suit and am able to mingle with the funeral attendees. Thank them for coming, and express my condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased. I can probably work 3 to 4 funerals depending on the times and locations. Do I contact the families of the deceased, the funeral home or put an ad in the paper?

If so can you tell me why someone would call asking about a package they were to deliver to me?

I was unable to take the call and it showed up about an hour later with no explanation of the call and nothing obvious with the package.

What protocol would you be following if you were to be calling someone?

Karma.

would it be a bad thing to type all in CAPS? Just wondering because I think it looks better that way, but I don't know if employers don't like that or not...when I used to work at the bank, we would have to fill out CTR Reports all in caps, even when we issue cashier's checks we had to type all in CAPS. So would that be a bad thing if I filled out an application that way?

I am paid 9.00 an hour and any hours past 40 hrs a week is considered carry over hrs. for sick time or slow times at work( still work40. My carry over o/t hrs this year is about 800. To prevent paying o/t I have to use a regular hr. if sick or not work. I have been doing this for several years. They just resently brought some one else in and paying him a salary, and he has been given my duties. The management than told me to take 2 weeks off to catch up on o/t. I complained about my hrs. and no o/t some time ago. I think they are tring to work me out without any problems. What can I do and where do I go for help and cause them a problem. I have a lot of o/t that hasn't been covered THANK YOU

I'm 33, male, and have a BA in Business Marketing. Been through three jobs in four years and need help finding a new one.
I've got three kids, two car payments, and a mortgage. My wife is a Registered Nurse and w/o her we'd be in big trouble - but w/ her income alone, we barely get by. My background is in circulation, publishing, direct mail, etc. However, this field is where I've been having such a bad string of luck in the past few years, so I'm interested in switching fields. I am the type of person who does NOT like switching jobs! I'm a loyal employee, and just need to find a company that is stable, has opportunities for growth, and a decent salary. Unemployment payments are okay, but do not last forever, and they are pretty small as well.
My plight has gotten me very down lately, and I've decided to throw my question out "there," just to see what other people have to say.
Looking forward to anyone's input and/or suggestions,
Ron F.
