I am a massage therapist and have a very successful practice. My office is set up to be very spa like and I incorporate spa treatments into my work. To make good money in the massage industry, it is really best to have your own business. Most massage jobs do not pay that well. It is okay to work at a day spa when you first graduate but I wouldn't work for someone for longer than a year or two. You should start to learn everything you can about marketing now because it is really important to have a successful practice. I have written a really good article about marketing your massage business at www.alternativehealthbusiness.com/low-cost-marketing.html. Massage is a really great business and you have a lot to look forward to. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Judy is right. The worst things you can do are constantly advertised on daytime TV with this message: "I make GREAT money with only 6 months of education, and so can you!" Schools enroll as many stupid people as possible knowing this: 50% of all students will discover massage isn't for them and never work in it; 90% of all people who do work in massage quit in 3 years because of low pay, physical injury and emotional burnout. I went down that route and opened my own successfuj spa. It was a 5-year nightmare that I finally ended 2 months ago. I was voted "Miss Congeniality" in school but now I'm a bitter, empty shell of a person wracked with constant pain thanks to massage. I don't think it's much better if you want to be an employee, either. You'll make $15-$25 an hour but it's so physically hard you can't do more than 25 massages a week. So you'll make around $25,000 a year and you'll be so exhausted that you won't have the energy to do anything else. Do yourself a favor and pick something else to do with your life.
