I recently resigned from work that I enjoyed much. I resigned because at that time, the company is having trouble (merging with another). Before resigning, my bosses asked me to stay though I told them I'd think about it. I am still very much welcome to go back and they are in a far much better shape than last month (merging did not push though and management decided not to sell the company anymore).I am now 1 month on my new job and I missed my old job, though I don't have problems with my current one. If I go back to my old comapany, will I give the impression that I am indecisive? Will this ruin my professional reputation? If I put this in my resume, will this look bad? (Please note that I stayed 10 years with my old job and I enjoy the trust of the management). Thanks for the advise.

My sister told me that she thought it was illegal for an employer to give a bad reference. I don't know if it was true, or just for my state, but I'm from Michigan.
Also, for a relatively low-level job, do you think employers bother to call contacts?

i work as a secretary for a construction site, my boss as of recently (w/o my permission) has done a background check, accused me of stealing (i didn't) and says he has me on tape, accused me and my boyfriend of stealing from his home (i clean as a side job..we didn't) and has threatened me several times heh, but for some reason hasnt tried firing me. so i want to quit.. i cant take it any more, its stressful with all these accusations and the distance is also taxing. Do i give a notice? whats the shortest and longest, can he take legal action and how can i protect myself from these false allegations?! can i take legal action for the background check? what do i do? plain and simple should i just quit and not say anything and ask him to mail me a check or what?! (i don't want to deal with this guy anymore)

No vulagar suggestions, please. I'm currently a teacher, but I'm sick of working like a dog for a pittance. I have a Master's degree and am used to working like a fiend. What careers would you suggest? I don't want to sell my soul to the devil or anything ;-) but I do want to start making some real money. I would consider going back to school--if it were a something I could complete in three years or less.
