I just started a new job as the assistant to the director of a nonprofit. Last Thursday, I ordered some lunches online for a meeting. On Wednesday-almost a week after I had placed the order-the boss called to cancel it.
When I went to work on Thursday, the boss informed me in the morning that the caterer never received the order. She told me to double check that the order was cancelled. I ended up being sidetracked and completely forgot to call.
An hour or so later she came to me and told me that the food had arrived. The deliveryman informed us that lunch orders are handled by corporate headquarters & not the person my boss spoke to. The bad part is that the company has no customer service center and the only number we have is that guy my boss spoke to.
My boss was so angry with me and basically telling me it was all my fault. Why couldn't she call herself that morning to doublecheck? Sometimes she talks and acts as if she can't do the work I do is beneath her.

I have been all in all probably sick for 5-6 months last year due to nervous breakdown and burnout as I had to do the job for 3 people. Today, without any warning I received no sick pay. At least I would have thought they would send a letter saying, that they are stopping the payment. I have sick notes and everything. My employer is the NHS and I am a Unison member and will contact the representative later, but need some advice now. I can't pay rent, bills, food, nothing, on top of being ill and having to go to hospital for an operation on my ovaries. I am in a total state as I am about to loose my rented flat, etc.
Can someone please give me an advice?

Has anyone encountered trying to get out of a non compete agreement at work? I have always heard that they are basically non enforceable...but mine reads pretty iron clad tight. Can a company really prevent you from working in an industry that your entire career has been based on?

if he allready has a bad impression of me because I...

-made a few mistakes because I didn't listen well and didn't pay attention to what I was doing
-I'm a very quiet person but I probably seem aloof and antisocial to some
-I'm not always "impeccably dressed" because I just don't have money right now to buy a new wardrobe
-I have trouble remembering some things

I'm new and it's a very demanding job. I only know a few people, have trouble with the machines, still trying to figure out their online system and there are so many things to know and remember.

My boss seems disappointed in me which is bad b/c I don't want to get fired. When I start looking for a new job I don't want him to say negative things about me.

Pretty much I"m relatively young (24). I recently got my B.S. in Comp Sci and started working at a new company. Majority of the staff there are in the 40's or later. I'm probably on of the youngest out of 1,500. I find that I get treated very differently among others. I get treated almost smaller and kind of rude/disrespectfull. I know more/less it has do to with my age more then being the fact that I'm new there. Pretty much it almost feel like age discrimination. It's not consistant (all the time) but every once and a while and especially particular people. Is this normal in most businesses. I don't act immature etc. It seems almost like maybee I'm threatning them due to my youth and knowledge etc....

HAve an interview with a staffing firm monday for a permanent job at a law firm that I really want. I've never used a staffing firm before- what is the protocol on this? Do you wear regular interview attire (i.e. nice business suit?) or is it more casual? And if less formal, what would you suggest? Just nice black slacks and a nice blouse or something?

it was base plus commission and you made $5,000 in commission a month but it would be $6,000 but your company takes the first $1,000 every month because that offsets cost to your manager and other company cost.

Some people will think well you are making 60 grand plus your base, dont complain, but I dont think this is fair. I mean this was NOT told to me when I was hired, and thats $12,000 a year that I could use. I thought the company paid for the managers pay and other company cost by other means NOT taken out of MY SALES!

What do you think???

3 weeks ago, I was hired as an administrative assistant to the director of a nonprofit. I can't take it anymore! It's very boring, repetitive and tiring.

Also, since the first day, I try to be polite and engage my coworkers in conversation but some continue to ignore me. Its like I'm going out of my way to be nice but to no avail.

The first day on the job, the girl I replaced told me that the position has a high turnover.

I really want to quit but I just started and it took me over a year to find a job in the first place. And of course, I'm broke with like no job experience.

How long should I stay at this job before I quit? What should I do in the meantime?

If a company has 1099 contractors working for them, does the company have to have liability insurance for these contractors, workers comp, unemployment, and any other associated expenses of a "full-time employee."

Also, can you offer healthcare benefits to a 1099 contractor or do they have to get them on their own?

I just quit my job of three years to move onto a bigger, better position with another company, and I feel depressed about it. Is this normal?

I like my current (now former) job, but the new job is a similar position in a larger company with 30% more $$$, more paid vacation, and other good things. I am really excited about the new position.

It's a positive thing all the way around, but I feel like I am letting my current crew down, because things will crumble pretty quick once I am gone.

On a side note: I work in management, and quite a few guys from the crew want to come work for me at the new company. Is it considered OK to hook up my crew in the new company (with corporate blessing, of course) if I can get them a better deal than they currently have?

Your thoughts?
