Pretty much I"m relatively young (24). I recently got my B.S. in Comp Sci and started working at a new company. Majority of the staff there are in the 40's or later. I'm probably on of the youngest out of 1,500. I find that I get treated very differently among others. I get treated almost smaller and kind of rude/disrespectfull. I know more/less it has do to with my age more then being the fact that I'm new there. Pretty much it almost feel like age discrimination. It's not consistant (all the time) but every once and a while and especially particular people. Is this normal in most businesses. I don't act immature etc. It seems almost like maybee I'm threatning them due to my youth and knowledge etc....

Use what you learned in college and mix in some confidence (but, not too cocky). If you've got fresh ideas use/share them. If they disrespect you (make fun of your age, experience, etc) fight back. Not literally, if they give you a zinger, then 'zing' them back. Definitely be respectful and maintain your professionalism. Also, double check your work. Make the least about of mistakes as possible. Years ago, I started as the youngest manager for a very large corporation. I quickly showed others my knowledge and new ideas. It's a good feeling when other manager and corporate 'suits' are asking for my input. Respect yourself and others will respect you. Best of luck to you.

All young people go through the same process...

you think you are better trained than people who are more senior to you (probably true) and the people who are more senior to you think that you dont show them appropriate respect (probably also true) because their experience is valuable too.

you should enjoy not having your job jeopardized by some kid with more recent training and learn from other people who to manage proects, etc, and not worry about whether you are being showed the appropriate respect.

To take an prolonged solid seem at that guy in front of me, that it don't get any greater effective, it is going to basically worsen. Get to appreciate the authentic guy or woman that he's and not basically what he needs me to work out. be taught to envision the indications of a cheater that are all around him. do no longer provide all your coronary heart away as there are some adult males obtainable only waiting to interrupt it into products. i'm going to have informed myself all this back then, yet do no longer think of that I listened very solid by way of fact for the subsequent 3 adult males that I had, I made the comparable errors back. yet now, later in existence (at 51), i'm listening to myself and leaving adult males by myself. i'm no longer saying that all and sundry adult males cheat, yet all and sundry of them that I truthfully have met are cheaters, ugh. i'm going to have saved myself fairly some coronary heart aches if i could have only left them by myself and lived by myself like i'm doing now.

If YOU THINK they're threatened by your age that may be coming across to them, resulting in your not being treated well. You have a lot to learn. First, you need to stop worrying about this pettiness and GET TO WORK. You might also do well to be receptive of what you might learn from those that are seasoned in the field.

u answered it urself!

older employees, especially those that are at your level in the organization or not much higher than you will obviously feel threatened. try to stick it out, it's the norm in many companies, but if it gets out of hand, i guess u can report it to ur superiors, or the superiors of the people that are bothering u.
