My brother asked his employer for a leave of absence so he could go to rehab for alcoholism (forget that his employer supposedly has an open door policy and programs to help its employees with problems without any reprocussions), his boss responded by firing him. Im pretty sure this is a violation of his ADA rights, but would like to know exactly what laws are being broken and the best way to handle the situation, as my brother cannot afford legal consult.

I am thinking of applying for some administration type role in the public sector.

Is it true the wages in the public sector are a lot less than the equivalent jobs in the private sector? If so, since I am very much motivated by money, do you think I should ignore the public sector and just concentrate on gaining employment in the private sector?

Finally, regardless to the answer above, do you know of any good websites which contains vacancies in the public sector?

Thanks

My husband landed a job interview last week with a great company. After the initial interview with the Human Resources dept. at 8 a.m., they kept moving him along on 5 more interviews until about 2:30 p.m. that day. He noticed that most people left right after the HR interview and he seemed to be the exception. As he progressed, they kept asking him if he was still interested enough to talk to the next person. He said he replied an enthusiastic "yes"! The final person asked him when he would be available to start and the salary desired. He was able to give a start date, but wasn't sure if he should give a specific salary amout because he wasn't given any clues as to how much the job paid. They told him they would be calling as early as Weds. of this week and today is Friday. Should he call them to check in and let them know he is still quite excited about the position, or any other ideas about how to sound enthusiastic without being "annoying and pushy". THanks!

I recently applied for unemployment here in Illinois, but received a call from their office saying that I have to have a hearing scheduled two days after Xmas(which really messes me up finanically) in order to dertermine if I'm eligible due to my being discharged. The reason for the discharge was poor performance, and the HR dept. at my past job along with my past supervisor were the ones that suggested I apply for benefits in the first place, so obviously they wouldn't have an issue with me being eligible. It just seems like a bunch of red tape, as it wasn't anything intentional or gross misconduct or anything of that nature, as I left on good terms, it was just decided that the work load may have been a bit much for my skill level. I want to contact the employment office and tell them that the company told me to file in the first place, but would that even have any impact on my having to attend the hearing or not?

I have an interview. However in addition to the background and drug test, the employer is going to run a credit check. I am not worried about the background check or the drug test, however I used to have great credit. In fact my score was near 800 about 2 years ago. Some unfortunate things happened that made my credit turn sour. I don't have any bankruptcies or anything like that but my credit is not good. I am wondering if I should be upfront with the HR manager before they run my credit or just go for the interview and let them do their due diligence. The thing is, the HR manager and the hiring manager are really impressed with my qualifications and even the HR manager said she would like to see me get this job because it has been difficult to locate a candidate with the qualifications the hiring manager is looking for? Please advise. Thanks

this one lady asked me to clean her tenants apartment, and i dont know what to charge, so i said $10, she said it would probally take 2-3 hrs to finish. do yu think i should call her back and ask her to see the apartment first and then give her a different price if i see its too dirty? At first she told me $8 so i said $10. Or do you think its too late to change my mind about the price if i see the apartment is really dirty?

I have been signed off by my doctor for 2 weeks but have been getting harrassed by my work to sort out rota's for the next few weeks. I have been called 3 times in one day so far. I didn't think that they were meant to contact you? Probably is a bit petty but just wanted to know. Any help?
