My husband landed a job interview last week with a great company. After the initial interview with the Human Resources dept. at 8 a.m., they kept moving him along on 5 more interviews until about 2:30 p.m. that day. He noticed that most people left right after the HR interview and he seemed to be the exception. As he progressed, they kept asking him if he was still interested enough to talk to the next person. He said he replied an enthusiastic "yes"! The final person asked him when he would be available to start and the salary desired. He was able to give a start date, but wasn't sure if he should give a specific salary amout because he wasn't given any clues as to how much the job paid. They told him they would be calling as early as Weds. of this week and today is Friday. Should he call them to check in and let them know he is still quite excited about the position, or any other ideas about how to sound enthusiastic without being "annoying and pushy". THanks!

Thanks so far to all - yes, he did send the thank you letter to the HR person and included a comment about extending a thank you to everyone else that he interviewed with by name!

I am a senior recruiter for an HR department, and there is nothing wrong with calling to find out if he is still being considered for the position. It is very possible that people got busy or distracted. A simple, confidant phone call to the HR director is a very good idea. Make sure to say he is very interested in the position and he is just wanting to touch base.
Good Luck!

Yes, he should contact them. One should always at least send a letter thanking a prospective employer for the chance to interview. It does two things, it shows you are responsible and it also puts your name back on their mind after interviewing many others.

In this case, a phone call can't hurt. Either they have already decided not to hire him or they are still considering people and he gets their attention in a professional and courteous manner.

Good luck!

I gather from your story that you aren't sure of what salary to ask for. Look up the job title on the state job site and you can find a general starting salary for that position. Then add a couple or three K to it.

By all means call! If he received contact info, it would also be advisable to send a 'Thank You' letter, indicating that he enjoyed the opportunity to interview and highlight what skills he would bring to the position.
