I just started a new job. I will be on probation for 1 year. My supervisor told me to move in, and get comfortable, but I'm still unsure.

How long *should* I wait before bringing in personal belongings to warm up and personalize my workspace?

I don't know if this makes a difference, but this is a County Position and I'm not considered Clerical, or Managerial, but the Union classifies me as "Professional". Others in the department have personalized their area, but most have been there for quite a while.

The Department I am in, is new, only 8 months old, so 1 of my employees has been there less than 2 months and the other will be competing for a permanent position.

Neither of them have personalized their workspace.

Any professional advice would really be appreciated.

Quitting is not an option at this time. I like the work but cannot stand the boss who does not understand the job and doesn't provide leadership.

I'm looking for a site that will help me decide which careers I'm most suited to. I have found several that tell me half of what I want to know and then want me to pay to find out the other half... but I want it all for free! I realise this might be an impossible dream but I thought I'd at least try. Thanks in advance : )

I am a high school senior looking for a pharmacy internship at a local drugstore such a Giant, or Safeway. Most of these drugstores only give Pharamcy students, ones in college, interships. Is there a way that I can get one? I would like to know what being a pharmacy is like, to see if I would like to pursue my major in pharmacy.

this guy who is not my boss came at me saying "you should not do anything else but just sit there answer the phone and look pretty". in a condescending tone, not playful at all. i have a sense of humor and if he was just playing with me would know. but when he said that, i was so offended by it that i started bawling. answering phone is part of my job description but that's not the main thing that i do. i do accounts payable and i went to school for it. i took his statement as 'you are nothing more than just a pretty face. you are dumb and stupid.' was i over reacting? is that sexual harrassment? discrimination? stereotyping? if i do demand that he shoud be terminated, what reason? help please. i would feel very uncomfortable seeing him in the workplace. it would be very hard because i will keep thinking he'll do this again. he has yelled at another co-worker before, so this wasn't the first time, he's made it a habit.

on my return to work after 6 weeks maternity leave all of my customers that i had maintained for over a year had been assigned to others who had sold to them and made lots of commission as a result i raised an informal grievance to get the customers back and was told to go see a solicitor by my manager. i then raised a formal grievance quoting parts of the sex discrimination act my manager went on holiday and it was referred to higher manager who said she would investigate. she has now said she would like to resolve it informally but what really bothers me is the fact that others have benefited from my customers both whilst i was off and also when i came back and i am now at a disadvantage as the experience has not only been upsetting it has also hindered my sales and i am only working part tim,e so rely on those sales to make money please advise anybody.

The company I am currently with "let go" most of our management staff last week due to financial cuts and are starting to move down to the customer service reps. Is it better to just let them "let me go" or for me to vouluntarily resign? It's guarenteed that I will be one of the many to be let go. I'm not sure what to do. Let them tell me or for me to step up first. I already have a few jobs lined up.

I work at a daycare in North Carolina. My boss claims she is not required to pay overtime, even though my checks are taxed like every other worker in the state. I always thought that anyone who works over 40 hr. per week gets "time and 1/2" for each hour worked after that. Can anyone help me?
