Most enlightened employers don't distinguish between personal days, vacation days, etc etc. Instead, you simply call in and say you need to take the day off and not give a reason. This eliminates the need for an employee to claim they're sick when they want to go fishing, and in your case, the need to explain.

In your case, I'd offer to work from home. Hopefully your employer has their technology in order so that you can use your computer and have your calls forwarded to your house. I find that working from home is a good compromise for parents who need to stay home with a sick kid.

If your employer doesn't understand working parents then I'd start dusting off the resume and looking for another job. I can assure you that there are better employers out there. In fact, I've had a couple who'd send you home if they found out that you had a very sick kid at home (or in the hospital).

You must not ever feel guilty for taking care of your daughter, that is the most important job in the world! The people at work should be the one's who feel guilty, if any! They have been cruel and mean. I suggest that when you call in, to simply say, My first job is taking care of my daughter and she needs me, therefore I'll be in when she is better!.....What would happen if your daughter had become worse while you are at work? You'ld then be called a unfit mother. Which would be worse? Believe in yourself and pat yourself on the back, for doing the right thing.

get a big gun and go in and ask who has a problem with you missing a day because of your daughter. if that don't work find someone that can come and look after your daughter. learn to adapt and go to work and pay for someone else to look after her you need to learn to accept she will get sick and learn to deal with it better. have her looked after by some one you trust that don't work. that is what they did in old days. too many peep seem to forget how to adapt to situations and grow up!
