I have good engineering and programming skills & I have done several academic projects and I have earned A and A+ grades in the relevant classes. Only thing is that I have never worked full-time for a company before. Just because of that reason, nobody is giving me a call after they see my resume. WHY?

I have the skills, I have the mastery - just because I haven't sat behind a desk covered by the four walls of an office, nobody is even giving a damn about me.

Oh, and the positions I am applying to are Entry-level anyway.

What are some sites that help you with your resume? Are there any that go into a lot of detail? Are there any without cost?

Due to a mechanical glitch, my cell phone has been out of commission for a little over a week or so. I finally got a replacement. Since a lot of people haven't been able to get in contact with me since my cell phone has been out, i've been receiving a lot of phone calls now that it's working. Since i'm at work all day, most of these calls come during my work hours. I've been here for over 3 years, my boss is great,&we have a fantastic working relationship. She always tells me about the fantastic job i'm doing. Heres the problem. Today, I forgot to take care of something. So, she came in&reminded me then said "maybe you should have a little less cell phone&pay more attention." I felt horrible! She is totally right,&I know that I need to stop answering my cell phone at work. I have no problem with the reprimand because it is true. My question is, should I apologize, or just let it go? I don't want our relationship ruined. In this situation, do actions speak louder than words?

I have been working at a landmark church in Queens for 6 years. I love the work but need a better salary. I function as a receptionist, office manager, crisis counselor, tour guide and secretary. I have searched the internet but there are no ministerial listings for NYC.

I work with a girl I can not stand. Now she has been made my temporary boss. I have tried being openminded, but I just can't stand anything about her. There are only 3 people in the office so I can't aviod her. She is extremely bossy, and is always nosing around in my work. It's not necessary since I do a good job, and get everything I need to done. I'm trying to be positive here... any suggestions?

There are huge corporations like Wal-Mart and McDonald's that make billions of dollars, and they barely pay their employees a little bit above minimum wage, if that. I just don't think it's fair that the workers bust their butt to try to make a living, when in actuality all they're doing is busting their butt to make someone else rich and they're doing all the work for the rich to get richer.

Not only that, but then the taxpayers end up having to pick up the tab when it comes to healthcare and food expenses because the workers are entitled to public programs to help them financially, when the employers should be paying them fairly.

Wouldn't you think the government would come up with a new law that would force the better pay? Just like with minimum wage, it's X amount of dollars per hour if you employ under 30 employees, and a little higher wage if you employ more people. I just think it's unfair to get paid so little when the employer makes plenty of money; what do you think?

Hourly employees are paid by the hour, and get time and a half for hours worked over 8 per day.

When I was a salaried employee I was working up to 60 hours per week, sometimes travelling on company business for a 3 week stretch, and yet I never received a cent over my monthly 'salary'. Occassionally some paltry bonus, but it was entirely discretionary.

I believe that this law needs to be reviewed. There is nothing to stop a Company, and I worked for a few, to turn a salaried employee into basically a slave. In my company you were required to put in 8 hours, with special projects the hours could go late into the evening, the weekend, etc. It was ridiculous.

I believe that Corporate America knows they have a 'good thing'. But this form of compensation should stop. Every individual should be paid for every hour he or she works. Salaried employees have a life too.
