There are jobs - the employment agency makes money when the client is working. Employment agencies do not want to send clients to places where the client will walk out after days on the job.
In the old days, you paid an upfront fee of $1,000 which served as motivation for you to not walk out of the job. With the employment market catered towards the desperate, employment agencies can better pick those clients who will earn them money rather than cost them money.

Easy. These days, a lot of employers (like councils) hesitate (or simply cannot - budget issues) to employ anyone on a full time contract. It is beneficial for them to get a temp they can get rid of at any time. On average, employment agencies pay for an admin work around £6 an hour, however they get between £10-£11 (or even more) from the client. Multiply that by 37 hours a week, 52 weeks a year and number of people who are desperate for a job. It's a damn good business!

There are loads of jobs about, stop listening to the news and look in the papers and on the net. I love people who use that excuse my next door neighbours son is the same age as me 24.
He doesnt work, bums around all day and still lives at home. She defends him and says there are no jobs.
I own 3 properties own 6 businesses and employ 200 people. I am always looking for staff, decent staff that is. A lot of people come to interviews just to get ticked off so they can clame their benefits, they have no intention of getting employed.
For example what would your wear to an interview with a Manging Director? Trainers? Didnt think so. My taxes pay for these losers, sickens me.
Employment agencieswill always make money as long as they have decent people to hand to employers. Then they skim off the top

wrong; theres no permenant jobs anymore, that means sick pay, holiday pay, and 40 hrs a week... the employer now gets the workforce from these agencies, on temp contracts, with absoluteley no protection for the workers in terms of continuity, or a guaranteed wage.
so, if youre boss has no work for you..he sends you home, without pay. ok, so it costs teh company more to employ a temp, but they may only do half a days work, saving the company 35 hours pay, Ni and Tax...
oh, and temp wrokers dont get employemnt contracts..they can be sacked without reason, and cannot go to a tribunal for arbitration.

My husband just found out that on top of the originals finders fee, the agency is charging £100 A DAY on top of his wages. Yet their is no continued support, no holiday pay, no sick pay and he has to pay his own NI contributions as he's self employed.

Employment agencies mainly concentrate on high paid positions, of which there are always plenty.
They concentrate on getting chartered accountants and similar high positions into jobs.
They get paid a % of the first years salary of he position filled.

They charge the employer a few bucks an hour more than they are paying the employee.
