In my second year of a attending a private, catholic prep school i am completely lost at what i should do with my life. nearly every other guy (it sucks, its all guys) in my school already has a good idea of what to become/do. my parents want me to attend michigan state(its a good b school for business) major in business, minor in math, attend business school and then work on wall street doing something like mergers and aquisitions(sp). does anyone know of any careers that make a decent amount of money that i might like? just names some jobs and i can look them up and see if i find anything i like. thanks

Don't be pressed, my man. Sometimes it takes some people longer than others to find their passion in life... Look at it as a challenge. You need to challenge yourself to gain exposure to as many careers, people, cultures, and communities as possible so that you can learn what motivates you.

To answer your question more specifically. Have you thought about becoming a teacher/educator? (And that doesn't only mean a grade school or high school teacher. You could become a college professor, corporate trainer, etc.)

I felt like you did in my teens (I'm now 32), and I later found out that helping others and solving their problems most motivates me... In time you will learn what motivates you.

Trust me. Don't rush it. Relax and enjoy prep school as much as possible!

P.S. Your career/guidance advisor should have access to personality exams that can you figure out what motivates you – thus helping you to decide which careers to consider.

A your age follow your interests, because you have the time to do almost whatever you want. For example - I love history but work in (dull - dull) insurance. I have a wife, two kids and mortgage - I can no more endulge my passion for history than I can knit fog. Its too late and my commitments demand I stick to my career and bring in a decent wage.

You my friend have the time and lack of commitments to do what really interests you - so think about it, be inspired and then go for it!!!

The alternative is 9-5 dullness - so don't ignore me - I know of which I speak! ;-)

That question is way too open ended.

And all those guys in your class have NO IDEA what they want to do. Half, if not more will change their minds.

Whatever your favorite subjects are in school, major in something similar to that and just follow what feels right. Don't sweat it now.

Forget what you "might like". Think what you can be good at. What are your strong points: math and sciences?; analytical thinking?; seeing opportunities that other people don't?; socializing, making friends? Based on that see in what direction you will go.
