Job interviews give me the impression of being elaborate pieces of theatre with little practical relevance. I've always been sceptical of the idea that you can guage the quality of prospective employees by simply having a short chat with them. What's your opinion?

If a business is closed over Xmas and employees have to use some of their holiday entitlement, does this also apply to an employee who is on Maternity leave i.e. do they have to use some of their holiday entitlement?

I have been working for my present employer for two months now. Becuase they didnt have my bank details in time for the first month they paid me by cheque a week before the pay date. This month they have failed to inform me of how I was to be paid and because they have my bank details i assumed that the money would go straight into my bank today. I have just found out that they have sent me a cheque today and sent it to another office in which it is going to be difficult for me to pay it in today, this doesnt help the fact that I have direct debits set up for the 31st of the month and the 1st of the month! Is my employer wrong to have done this? And is there anything i can do to make sure that I get paid on time? If I pay the cheque in today it will not clear untill weds/thurs next week which will be too late for my direct debits.

Here is the problem, if I get marry soon, I want a family right away because I am in my late 30s.
How can I keep a family and my job when my boss will not allow me more than 2 weeks of vacation?

I just had an interview yesterday and I think it went pretty good. It is a job with alot of responsiblilities (HR Manager) that I have had in past positions so I am good there. I got along with the interview, I would be replacing. Even chatted with some of the employees while she went out to feed the meter. I really want this job badly. I even put my thank you letter in the mail right after I left. My question is should I do anything now? I was given her card to email her if I have any other questions...should I email some? Or send an email thank you too. I don't wanna seem needy or crazy but I do want the job. I am super qualified almost over, so I know I am good in the experience and skills department. I am just so excited and want to do everything right. Any advice is great.
