I am familiar with buying stock, bonds, mutual funds, currencies, options and futures. But I met someone at a party who said they are a fixed income desk manager buying paper for a living.

I am just wondering what he does exactly? What is he buying? Who he buys it from? What he does with it after he buys it?

We bought our 3 bed victorian terraced house in an ex mining village in December 2005 for £72,000.

Its very shabby and desperately needs a lot of work done to it, but we just have no way of financing this.

We are a low income family but we are not on benefits. I am not working, partner earns around £12,000 p/a and we get tax credits.

We were turned down for a "minor works grant" as our "contribution" was too high (over £1,000 according to the Council).

We can't apply for a Renovation Grant until we have lived here for 3 years (that will be next December). What are our chances of getting one and what could it be used for? The windows and doors need replacing, we have damp problems, the electrics all need re-doing and also the central heating system. We also have plaster coming off the walls and the house needs redecorating (desperately!)

I graduated with my MBA in July, but I was newly pregnant. I am 24 years old with office and some sales experience. I am not going to start my career until after I have my baby and spend a few months at home with my two sons while my husband works. Does anyone know of a program or of a way to secure a job for after I give birth? Are there programs out there for pregnant women or for MBAs? Any other suggestions? I'd like to have a job waiting for me and I'm open to work for multiple industries and for the government. I live in California by the way, but I am open to move to other states as well.

I have been going back and forth with a dealership on a specific car I like. We have been talking terms and actually came to an agreement that I was really happy with. Here is the last email:
Here is mine to "Jeff":
"OK.... lets run the numbers:
My 2004 Kia Optima, blue, in good condition, about 32K miles, payoff from Chrysler is: 8537.50.
The 2007 Mazda 5 Grand Touring @ 16999 + tax, title and tags.... can we get out the door for 350 a month, 72 month loan? "
This is his response:
"Janice, as long as I can get at least 6k for you trade from the boss, we can get to 357 per month. If you come in this weekend, I'll try for more, so you can get to the 350 even. Let's make a deal. Thanks, Jeff."

The problem is that I went down and he brought out a "sport" model and I said no, we talked about a Grand Touring model. In the end, they did not honor the email and I am mad. Is the email a written agreement? Do I have any recourse?
Thanks for any help,
Janice

My manager made a mistake in creating the next two weeks' schedules. She overscheduled people in departments that had suddenly slowed down a lot. Then, she decided to cancel some of the shifts. A week ago a different manager gave me a post it note with a shift of mine they decided to cancel. It was fine by me; I have a lot of school work to deal with.

But then, the manager called me the other day and asked if it was ok if she cancelled another one of my shifts. Thing is, I thought they already dealt with the situation. It seems like I'm losing ONE too many shifts. I said yes she could cancel it (I have schoolwork piling up).

I feel like I'm not needed there or something. I've been working there for 3 yrs and I do a great job.

Has anyone got through this and can offer insight?

most don't claim tips at all
would it generate more money and in fact show good credit if you "over" claim the amount of tips you received. also having more taxed from your check and also raising your return.

I've been offered a job (in the UK) depending on medical clearance. However, they ask about depression (which I've suffered from last year), fits (I had 4 in my life related to low blow sugar) and hospitalisation due to mental illness (I've been hospitalised when I was anorexic 7 years ago).
Can they refuse me the job because of my medical past?

My first question apparently confused most. I know it is the law for males ages 18-26 to sign up for selective service, that wasn't what I was asking about. In the hiring process, job applications cannot ask a persons sex, age(except to find out if they are a minor), race, national origin, if they have a disability, marital status, I might be forgetting something, but I think that's it. Anyhow, if you are applying for a teaching position in North Carolina, where most counties use the same application, it asks about whether an applicant, if male, has signed up for selective service. As a store manager for a retail chain, that question was never on our applications nor was it a legal requirement for us to ask about when filling out all the paperwork after hiring someone. So for those that believe the answer to my previous was answered best(Not in my opinion) with "its the law" need to tell me exactly what law states that the selective service has to be asked about on a JOB APPLICATION?

My friend lets his flat normally under the terms of an assured shorthold tenancy. However he has not renewed this with his tenant and just allowed the tenant to remain in the flat on the same terms ( i.e. it is rolling over). However he has done this for nearly 5 years. He has just been told by another friend that there may be a risk with this and that the tenant has security of tenure (i.e. a right to remain in the property now) as my frend has not renewed the assured shorthold tenancy and that my friend can now not get the tenant out if he wanted to.

Does anyone know whether this is true and what additional rights the tenant may now have? Thanks
