Your credit score is based on what you have done, not him. If you cosign on any loans that are delinquent and other things of the sort it will hurt your credit, but you should be fine. Unless he has serious problems managing money, a credit score is little reason to avoid marrying him.

It will only effect your credit if you are added to one on his loans or credit cards that he has bad pay history on. You can improve his credit by adding him as an authorized signer to one of your credit cards. If you new loans together, and pay bad on the note your score will go down. However, by adding him to a auto note or mortgage will increase your interest rate that you will pay. Mortgage is based on who makes the most money and that person middle score is used. Auto loans, either borrower can go first on the note. However, if the co-buyer score is below 620 or has a repo and bad pay history. This will effect the rate and getting approved on the loan. The best way to improve his score is paying off bad debt. Adding him to your credit card that has been open for two years that has a high limit and low balance. Don't give him the card. Credit repair is available to help remove the old info on the report. Hope this helps.

It will not mess up your credit, as long as you do not cosign.
More importantly, do you want to be with a man who cannot buy anything, this could symbolize some faults in his character. I would want to know why he has bad credit.

His credit history is his, your credit history is yours.
If both of you apply for a joint account then his credit will have an impact on "that" particular account.
His credit will not, and legally cannot, even be considered on any accounts that you have in your name only.
