In my job search, I am seeing a lot of references to W2 contracts and 1099 contracts. I assume W2 means working for a contracting company and 1099 is as an independent contractor, but I am not real sure. Could someone explain the differences?

I have been given an offer to work in a storage company in a customer services kind of role. Its not exactly glamorous and its not exactly my dream career (i don't know what I want to do with my life!) but it is 16.2k a year, which I could really do with. What do you all rekon? Should I take the job - do it for a year or so? or hold out for something a little bit more dream based??

I need to open an account for direct deposit and an ATM card but don't need checks. I got into some trouble with my checking account a couple of years ago when I was in the hospital and off work for 2 months and now I can't seem to get an account.

OK...I've been "climbing the corporate ladder" for about ten years now, and have hit an impasse.
They say that 10 minutes of *** kissing is better than 10 years of experience. The sad thing is...it's TRUE!
But unfortunately for me I lack two particular *** kissing skills....
I can't talk sports, and I'm not a drinker.
From my observations, all the best *** kissers can go have a beer with the boss, and talk about nothing but football or baseball, etc.. for hours...and leave him thinking..."Gee...he's a GREAT guy! He'll go far in this company"!
Don't get me wrong... I know that I have a GREAT personality...am a HARD worker, and I know my industry...but the sad reality is those things can only take you so far.
How do I get over this "Sports Talk/Alcohol" hurdle?
Do I just have to bite the bullet and become a sports fan and a drinker?
Please tell me that there is another way!

Please help!

Thanks!

Being out on your own these days when young (19) is so hard, I now understand why so many choose to live at home for so long. Rent prices here are massive, I live with a housemate to help pay the bills, but it is still hard, my career is just taking off so its low pay for the moment, i work 2 extra jobs to make ends meet and do not have the choice of moving home as i no longer have one to go back to due to an abusive home.

Any Ideas on what i can do ,other than the usual (saving every penny so as to afford to live),on being able to live, and still have fun, stay sane and just be young. I'm not the only one who just getting by so many other may have ideas and tips on what helped them through it?

My dad bought eight cemetary plots in 1955 and only paid $75 for all of them. My dad passed away in 1990 and I now have the deed to the cemetary. The plots are in Ohio and I live in Georgia. I now have four plots left but I am wanting to sell the plots but really don't know how since I am in GA. My husband told me to put them on the internet but I am sure that that would cost me some money for a website. I can't trust just anyone to sell them to on the internet since I am the one with the deed. How would I sell them and how much do I sell them for? They were cheap when my dad bought them so how much do they sell for now?

My friend just gained control of $215,000.00 trust money. He's put 100,000.00 ina c.d. that will make him 6,000 in 6 mo. The rest is in a high yeild checking acct. He wants find the best way to use that money to make more money;investments, forclosed homes/fix re-sell,whatever. He wants fairly quick returns. He didn't finish school, got his g.e.d. though. Hasn't had to work much at all, and has no trade or skill. I say education is a good investment, but I don't think that will fly. So we're trying to make the best educated decision that we can, along with checking in w/a local financial advisor.

I live in the UK.On Friday I knocked over a cup of black tea at my desk and badly scalded my arm. I have been signed off work for two weeks by a hospital burns unit. I won't lose any salary and a colleague has suggested I file a compensation claim. As I am half way through a 12 month contract and hoping to have torenewed, would I be stupid to try and sue the company.
