I just got audited for 2004. The IRS said I had 180,000.oo in my accounts which was unaccounted for. My question is was it my accountants responsibility to tell me my bank accounts and records weren't balanced before he filed it that year? Surly as an accountant, he should had known that it would be a problem. Cause now the IRS wants me to find what it was after three years. And my records arn't in the best shape. Alot of the papers were already disintegrated naturally.. There is pretty much no way I can tell how that much records was missing. Now I just recieved a letter from the IRS about 2005 and possibly 2006. What should I do? I don't know what went wrong. Should my accountant take some responsibilities as far as penelties and interests?

Do companies really go over all those sent in resumes? I've been trying to help a friend look for work using most of the job searching sites. He's a designer and an awesome one at that! So why is it so hard for any follow ups or even responses from these companies? A "Thank you for sending in your resume." would even be nice.

Do CC companies really hire law firms to sue people over unpaid cc debts less than $2000?Some law firm from UTAH called my mother's answering machine left a rude msg that they are going to sue me and take me to court over a Providian CC I once had. I called them today and the guy hung up on me 2x. Finally I called back and got a "manager" he basically told me that the collectors sold it to them and they will serve me papers and sue me if I do not pay it off. I am a student and only make $8/hour!!! He basically is trying to force me into paying a sum of $25 a month w/post dated checks! He also is demanding that I get to a fax machine immediately so he can fax me some papers to sign and then wants me to give him 3 months worth of post-dated checks! I don't know what to do but I have had other bills that I am worried about paying besides a cc bill from 5 years ago! Is there any free legal advice, can they really do this and should I sign those papers???

My girlfreind is going through a tough time at work, she works for a College and the type is accredited and is the only one of its kind in the area. She is a coodinator and student assistant and her higher ups are out of town. She works around a couple other employess who are inrolement counclers and they have seperate higher ups. Since these 2 inrolement counclers (IC) came aboard my girlfreind has had nothing but problems. They constantly try to run the place in which she was the first to start working in when it first opened. These 2 (IC) were students there. Yet, they like to put on an act like they are real team players but yet, are the typical snakes in the grass. SHe trys to do everythign by the book, logs all teh goings on, keeps track of things and makes sure there are no deviations in protocol. SHe trys to keep her nose out of their business and there have been times where they have made some decisions that violated a privacy issue and she had informed the brass. Anyways....

I currently use Yahoo...and I love it. But it's being discontinued. My bank's service takes the money out of my account 5-7 days before the payee gets the money and they do not receive e-bills.

I currently live in Rhode Island but I am moving to California in three months. I got hired for a job in Santa Monica that pays $100,000 a year and my husband was hired for a job in Long Beach that pays $75,000. That’s a total household income of $175,000. Can I rally afford a home on this. I just sold my home in Rhode Island for $230,000 and I made $53,580 after paying the realtor. Where is a good place to live that we can afford, yet still get to work. I don’t mind a long drive, just not too long. I currently travel to Boston for work, which takes about an hour. I would like to own a house, not a condo. I have two sons and would need a 3+ bedroom home. I’m just a little worried how we can afford to live there. I’m flying out on Monday to find a house, but I’ve been looking on the internet and checked out the San Fernando Valley, Long Beach, and Northern Orange County. All I see is homes that are like $625,000 to $950,000. Is this feasible? Can I really afford California?

In recent weeks, I've been offered to make a settlement on some of my unpaid credit card balances with a few of the collection agencies that have been calling my house frequently. Personally, I don't think that's a wise decision because it may affect my credit background with all three major credit bureaus. As we all know, collection agencies are known to hound consumers to death when it involves collecting money on bad debts and charged-off accounts from former creditors. I understand credit advisors across the country don't recommend a consumer to "settle" an account with neither a creditor nor a collection agency. I'd rather just face the music and pay the balance on record or if push comes to shove, maybe consider debt consolidation. Please advise what would be the best option to move forward with.

Hi, I'm a new restaurant / bar owner. I was blown away by the outrageous taxes the government charges restaurant owners. Withholding taxes along with sales and use taxes in North Carolina are killing me. At this rate I can not afford to stay in business. Is there any advice anyone can give me to get some sort of relief. If I earn $40,000 gross per month and my food and alcohol expenses are $20,000.. I'm being taxed on $60,000 at 4.5% and 2.5%. I pay taxes on the alcohol at time of purchase. Why am I being double taxed in the sales and use tax. How do I profit between overhead and taxes?
