My girlfreind is going through a tough time at work, she works for a College and the type is accredited and is the only one of its kind in the area. She is a coodinator and student assistant and her higher ups are out of town. She works around a couple other employess who are inrolement counclers and they have seperate higher ups. Since these 2 inrolement counclers (IC) came aboard my girlfreind has had nothing but problems. They constantly try to run the place in which she was the first to start working in when it first opened. These 2 (IC) were students there. Yet, they like to put on an act like they are real team players but yet, are the typical snakes in the grass. SHe trys to do everythign by the book, logs all teh goings on, keeps track of things and makes sure there are no deviations in protocol. SHe trys to keep her nose out of their business and there have been times where they have made some decisions that violated a privacy issue and she had informed the brass. Anyways....

Since they arrived my g.freind has inevitably stepped on toes not on purpose but to cover her ***, yet, she has made an attempt to help by lettng this person know what could happen if they violate the privacy act. Apparently this person was offended, since then she has been trying to get my g.freind in trouble. My g.freind has even tried to quell such by explaining and coming to terms with her that she isnt against her in anyway. This (IC) has done several things that are substantial for termination, but my guess is since this person is an (IC) and has been nroling poeple and is the only one here I think most of the **** doesnt go straight and get handled because this (IC) is bringing the company money, a puppet. Now this (IC) and quite possibly the other (IC) is in on trying to get my g.freind fired. What can she do besides covering her ***, documenting and reporting/logging in all this incidents? Is this some status/competition ********?

In answer to Zanthus, she hsnt tattled. This (EC) tried to get my g.freind to do something that violated policy. Whcih resulted in the (EC) geting upset and trying to do something malicious just cause that (EC) didnt get her way. Documenting and letting g.freind boss know is not tattling.
Lori K. you sound like that particular (EC) personality..typical

Thats right ashlee, I think Lori K is a troll, keeps her answers private because they are pure gas and for fear she could get flamed. The kind that goes out and shoots and then runs and hides behind women and children instead of taking the counter punch.

Funny how this broad Lori K knows few details and thinks you are wanting "mommy" to come to the rescue isn't it. I wonder why all her lame answers are kept private, yet she has 7k answers. Looks like someone needs to get out into the real world herself and experience a hostile working environment. More than likely she is a fatty that sits on her rear all day collecting welfare and popping out kids as fast as she can and then suing all of the fathers for child support so that she can free load easily. Lori get offyour butt get a REAL job and ecperience this situation then come back and tell us what you find out.
awww look someone gave me thumbs down.... looks like this lori chick can't handle the truth very well... well lori it's time to put your big girl panties on and get a REAL job and put up with cutthroat co workers, and then you can come back here and tell us what you think.

I started working in my current job 3 yrs ago - I was the first person on the team reporting directly to the Vice President in charge of our department - then they hire another link in the chain, I get a supervisor who has NO experience working in our department and I'm supposed to follow her lead in everything - when I tried to tell the VP that she was being particularly rude, etc. I got told that this supervisor is trusted implicitly by the VP....I was stuck with nowhere to go...what could I do? It was between my pride & my job and I need the money....
I'm still working, the Supervisor thinks things are all settled down, but I no longer hold this company in good will and the second I find a better or even equally beneficial job, I'm quitting - that's all you CAN do in these kinds of situations.
Tell your girlfreind she's doing the right thing by reporting such incidents and that she should keep her own in the company but also use any resource possible to look for alternate employment - when she quits, she needs to make it very clear to her bosses that the reason she quit is their lack of action against workplace harrassment - and yes, what those 2 r doing DOES qaulify as harrassment - even making jokes that you find offensive is prosecutable by law!!!

That's a rough one. You seem sincere. Did you do something that could be perceived as harrasment although you may have thought it innocent? Harrased her how? Please add some more details and I can give you a better answer. EDIT: Accept my apology. When you said harrassment, I thought you meant she accused you of harrassment and THEN you corrected her about some data entry stuff unrelated to the harrassment. I didn't think you meant that was the harrassment. Honestly, I thought it was something else entirely. Let me put this bluntly. Your co-worker is F-O-S. If what you're saying is true it sounds like you are trying to do your job and she's reacting in a defensive and childish manner. Your boss sounds like a real winner too; not knowing what the process is for the correct entry of data in an office they run. I'm a jazz musician and I've had to work office jobs to get by. In one case I did freelance audio work for a cable network had the same type of co-worker; she didn't like any of us freelancers but would never say why. I'm convinced it was because she was threatened we could be hired to take her job. Really it was because they didn't want to pay benefits and the project was a short one! It was pretty brutal working in that environment. In the music business we refer to this as being "vibed" by someone; it means they're shooting daggers our way and we're not even sure what we did! I will say this; in re-reading I see it is you who are younger. I don't know how young you are but it could be that your approach to this person is a bit strong and she's perceiving it as "Who is this youngster to question my job performance." Even though I'm sure you're right, a change in tone might help. I really don't think you ought to be fired over this. You seem very sincere. The three of you need to sit down and talk it out. Good luck. Try to make a friend. I know its hard.

She will have to distance herself from these enrollment counselors to protect herself from any repercussions. Since she is having problems, she needs to document any and all policy infractions by these individuals to cover her own behind so that her job is not jepordized. She can put in her documentation what transpired, what was said, and what the outcome was of the infraction. I have had problems with things like this myself. I let the problem maker know that what ever the breech was, if it effected my job, I would take them down with me in the process if I was fired since I had documentation of all the problems that was caused. This also helped with a person in management who was a higher up manager than I was. Every time this was told to the offender, the problems stopped. You cannot be friends with co-workers like this, and it is best to keep everything just as impersonal and businesslike as she can under the circumstances.

You're girlfriend only has to focus on what SHE is doing. If she see's other people violating privacy issues, and she is not their boss, she shouldn't say ANYTHING to the other person.
She should speak to her boss and have her boss CLEARLY
mention what the guidelines are regarding privacy issues to all of the staff members.
Your friend could say something like, I've noticed some privacy violations. I don't want to point fingers, but I think it might be important to remind everyone about what the privacy rules are.
Tell your friend NOT to get involved in backstabbing, gossiping, or turning into the office tattle-tale.

been there done that and it is dreadful. all you can do is what she is doing. she needs a friend. she is outnumbered and numbers matter. latch on to somebody. job is at stake but never do the slightest thing to appear paranoid. try to divide and conquor. favor one a lot and take her to lunch and do things. this is dirty street fighting in a a corporate backroom. it is bad. divide an conquor. buy one off. get a third party and write regular memos to the file of something someone said or did that caused you to work overtime or redo some work. show it has been a constant barrage. still, pick one for friend and rthe other to zap. it has always been political bs like from bibical times. regular deal in rome and the royal families. etc. i personally suffered a lot and it cost me a lot. i was in one and lost. it cost me big time because i reacted and got sick when it was over. i was on the street my friend. i lost. aint no joke. changed my life.

I would say kill them and dump their bodies somewhere but that would be ill eagle, i experienced this before, i say she should quite and find another job, or either that she should just straight up tell them to mind their own business and stay out of hers, people like these need someone to just go off on them and use some scare tactics.

If its a public university all you have to do is ***** to the higher ups. State institutions are so scared of getting sued. I used to work for one and my bosses did the same thing to get power.
