Can I be charged a sales tax if i wanted services performed such as getting my lawn cut?

It depends on what state and city you live in. Most states only charge sales tax on tangible personal property, but some do charge it on other items as well, like some services. Also a local taxing authority may charge sales tax on certain items, even if the state does not.

Even if you don't charge sales tax for your service you will be taxed by the IRS for every dollar you received. SO if you service charge includes your IRS tax then no you wouldn't charge for this but if your service charge doesn't include this extra expense then yes you should charge for it. This question is really something that you as business owner has to decide when pricing your services. Good Luck! =)

Maybe.....it depends on which state.

As we have switched to a more service driven economy, states have had to expand the reach of their sales tax laws.

In Minnesota (where I am), I believe that lawn care services are indeed subject to sales tax.
