Do companies really go over all those sent in resumes? I've been trying to help a friend look for work using most of the job searching sites. He's a designer and an awesome one at that! So why is it so hard for any follow ups or even responses from these companies? A "Thank you for sending in your resume." would even be nice.

I got a lot of response from Monster. I'd answer the ads, placed either by the company themselves or a recruiter. Recruiters were better at getting back to me.

Give him time, polish the resume. Rule of thumb is it can take 1 month per $10,000 salary you're looking for. Not always true, but that's the word.

Good luck.

yes if you send out your resume, or post your resume for e.g. on monster.com, etc, companies and recruiters will look at them

the thing that you have to consider is competition, are there a lot of designers in his area? how much experience does he have? are there a lot of positions open in that field? .. all of those factors (and more) are taken into consideration, so that's why you can't give up if you don't get a response right away, continue seeking all different avenues to search for a position whether answering ads, going online, going to an employment agency, cold calling.... etc, lol

Of course they read it. Your friend has to continue trying until someone says you're hired. How in the world is your friend going to find work if don't send out resumes?
